Yesterday, the State Liquor Authority awarded Barclays Center its liquor license, with the stipulation that alcohol sales end at 1 am. The fine print is a little complicated: During games, alcohol sales will end after the third quarter for the hoi polloi. But at the center’s premium bars, which serve as many as 1,800 VIP ticketholders, last call is one hour after any event, up to a cutoff of 1 am. Community groups and neighbors are worried about late-night drinking at the arena and surrounding bars and clubs, and the uptick in liquor license applications in the area, reported the New York Times.
