The block of Clifton Place between Franklin and Bedford Avenues is still decidely ungentrified; heck, it’s still fairly commercial in use, with lots of one- and two-story buildings that currently or formerly housed things like body shops and warehouses. The block’s about to get a dose of the new Bed Stuy though: A 4,500-square-foot “movement studio” called Sacred is going to be opening up in a former metal shop 197 Clifton Place in January. Activities will include “hot yoga, movement and play.” GMAP

  1. Thank you retlaw for the map. Neighborhoods are defined with clear borders that correspond to the the Community Board districts, etc. It’s not something that you “feel.” I haven’t looked at any statistics but I doubt this is a serious high crime area compared to the real high crime areas of Bed-Stuy and further east. There are crimes all over New York City. People get shot in Fort Greene too regardless of how expensive the brownstones are. Wherever we live it’d help the borough to support new businesses opening up as an economic engine and not get so obsessed with being real estate snobs.

  2. It may be Clinton Hill but there’s a a lot of crime right around here. I posted this yesterday but I guess the gods at Brownstoner decided my comments were not in accordance with their opinions. Anyway, it’s a dangerous little neighborhood:

Shooting in October 2010 around the corner:

  3. This is an eerie little strip of street. There’s a lot of crime around here too. A couple of weeks ago, around the corner, a kid tried to hold up a salon and last winter, a guy was shot and killed right up the street.
