A drawing has gone up on the construction fence at 880-882 Macon Street between Broadway and Saratoga in the Ocean Hill area of Bed Stuy, where the owners tore down a small, decrepit 19th century brick house next to an empty lot to build a four-story, eight-unit apartment house.

Large, double-glazed windows will alternate with sheet metal and an insulated finish that looks like stucco. When we peeked through the construction fence, it appeared workers were busy preparing for the cement to be poured for the foundation. What do you think of the design?

  1. I should do a show on the old architecture of this neighborhood. I have tons of photos of Bedford Stuyvesant before 1950 and it is really architecturally stunning. The frame buildings really keep up with the masonry buildings

  2. Though the landmarking/creation of Historic District of BEdstuy only was proposed untill Malcolm X. http://www.nyc.gov/html/lpc/downloads/pdf/maps/Bedford_PROPOSED_20130115.pdf
There are nonetheless beautiful brownstone blocks all the way to Howard Ave. But the blocks between Howard and Broadway are mostly of no interest. Mostly crappy 6 families. Though there are single noteable limestones between the apartment buildings even on those blocks.
So this development doesnt really hurt. Its next to some crappy multi family.
