Sometimes I give in...

Im sure you were all at the edges of your seats to see how the great stair debate would turn out. I figured I'd let the collective universe breathe a sigh of relief that I went with the cream risers.

Even an unrelenting bitch like me gives in sometimes :)

Mrs. Limestone, The stairs look beautiful just like everything else in your home. I hope you like the way they turned out and do not regret your compromise. By the way, you are not a bith - just a woman with great taste who knows what she likes!

Keep the photos and posts coming!

Looks like you will soon have nothing to write about here on the reno blogs...because you will be finished and enjoying your dreamy home. The place looks amazing.

Believe it or not, I had been wondering how the stairs turned out. We have stairs painted black and stairs painted cream and stairs natural walnut and I was thinking about your dilemma hoping you wouldn't do the black because it really does show everything -- it almost highlights the flaws and dust and dirt show up immediately. It's okay to let go and let your husband get his way sometimes (I say that for your sake as well as my own), as hard as it may be. Thanks for sharing everything -- the stairs look fabulous and you are very brave to take us on your journey with you.

Interesting 9:05, that's what I had said too back during the original debate about Mr. & Mrs. Limestone's stairs, that the black paint would show more scuffs and dust and dirt than they realize. I had black-painted floors once in an old Victorian apartment in college. Which looked super cool but wow, dusty dirty. Had a long-haired gray and white cat too, which didn't help things! Plus I was a terrible housekeeper in my youth. (shudder - bad memories of filthy college apartment floor).

Anyway, this looks fantastic. I love the pale grey walls, it's closer to what I wanted in our parlor. But I ended up with a blue-grey somehow but which is okay. Greys are difficult to choose!

Thanks all. I still would prefer the black -Im of the mindset that when something is dirty, I would like to know. But this looks good too.

410 - Greys really hard to pick. There is no such thing as a perfectly balanced shade. The one in my hallway leans a tiny bit toward the lilac in certain lights. It works for me but not everyone would be down for that.

The key is knowing what affects how a paint color will look, most ipmortantly, the colors next to it and the lighting. Incandescent lights have a yellow cast, halogens have a blue cast, natural light is most balanced, but changes depending on latitude, exposure etc... Greys are particularly suseptible to metamerism.

Your home is gorgeous! I am in the process of planning a kitchen remodel. Please let me know how you like the soapstone and what kind of appliances you have. They are really pretty. Thanks.

Oops. I almost forgot. Please tell me about the kitchen cabinetry, too. Like I said I am just starting the planning stage and am in the process of learning. Obviously they are custom made but please tell me what materials were used and what paint shade/brand were used. Like I said, I love your house!
