There are many things to love about New York, but doing laundry has never been one of them. Many apartments have charming features like exposed brick, but no washer or dryer.

Instead, many New Yorkers find themselves hauling their wash up and down to a few old machines in the basement or to the local laundromat. For those lucky enough to have in-unit machines, they’re often inconveniently small; a week’s worth of clothes, sheets, and towels can take hours.

Quinn Auerbach believes there’s a better way. Folded, which he co-founded with two lifelong friends, offers door-to-door laundry and dry cleaning service, 24/7, with just the tap of an app.

“It’s not just about the convenience,” Auerbach says.  Shortly after launching Folded in the summer of 2016 in the East Village and Lower East Side, Auerbach began meeting with customers to find out how they liked the service. Many told him of their laundry and dry cleaning sagas with other on-demand services. “Hang dry that came back damp and moldy,” says Auerbach. “Mysterious stains that inexplicably appeared between drop off and delivery. And of course, items that simply vanished.”

So, clearly, convenience was not enough; quality was key. “We focus on the little things that matter,” says Auerbach. They distinguish themselves from the competitionsocks paired, your lights and darks washed and dried separately, full-time customer service, free garment bags that are great for traveling, and a special room for better drying.

And it’s working. By concentrating on quality, the business has grown. They have added the Financial District, Gramercy, and Murray Hillthe West Side and Brooklyn are next.
