About
Bernheimer Architecture is a Brooklyn-based practice rooted in New York City and its surroundings. As a studio BA strives to create beautiful spaces through contemplative research, pursued simultaneously with consideration for the pragmatics of building. Our studio believes in creating sustainable and resilient architecture not by checking boxes, but rather by creating productive environments for people and their communities. We have confidence that thoughtful, inventive, and responsible use of form, materials and systems leads to designs responsive to context, program, and budget.
BA provides full architectural design, interior design, construction administration, planning and zoning analysis services. BA’s portfolio includes award-winning affordable and high-end residential, commercial, hospitality, mixed-use, public architectural projects, furniture design, architectural design competitions, and art installations.
Work recently completed, on the boards, and currently under construction includes the main studio for Peloton Interactive in Chelsea, NY; BCD:A, a mixed-use cultural and residential building in the BAM Cultural District in Brooklyn; OneFlushing (a 265,000sf development containing senior supportive and affordable housing) in Queens; new private residences in Long Island and Manhattan, as we well as exhibition design for the AIANY Chapter and civic work for the NYC Department of Design and Construction.
The firm was awarded a Citation for Design from the 2012 AIA NY State Design Awards and a Merit Award from the 2012 AIA LA Design Awards for the design of the (Malin+Goetz) boutique in Los Angeles along with a 2013 AIANY Design Award for the same project. In 2015 BA was selected for a National AIA Small Projects Award for the Quonochontaug House in Rhode Island.
