MADE

an innovative design-build practice

About

MADE is distinguished by our belief in integrating the architect and builder at every stage of the creative process. Our studio is located in a Civil War-era warehouse on the historic piers of Red Hook, Brooklyn. By combining a design studio, a fabrication workshop and a contracting team under one roof, we offer a range of services unmatched by a conventional architectural practice.

Fundamental to our work is our belief that design should be realized, it should get built. In every MADE project, design proceeds simultaneously with a concern for buildability. With this comprehensive understanding, we lead our clients through the entire process, assuming responsibility for executing a project that intelligently and creatively meets their desires. By integrating the talents of informed designers with the skills of inspired builders, MADE’s work exhibits a refreshing clarity of detail and craft producing an aesthetic both natural and unique.

Established in 2002 by founding partners Ben Bischoff, Oliver Freundlich, and Brian Papa shortly after graduation from the Yale School of Architecture, MADE now operates under the leadership of Ben as the principal. Ben is a registered architect in the State of New York and holds a Master of Architecture from the Yale School of Architecture and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Richmond. While at Yale, Ben was awarded the David Schwarz Good Times Award traveling fellowship for excellence in design and also served as construction supervisor for two years on the Yale Building Project. Prior to founding MADE, he worked as a designer at Steven Harris Architects and Deborah Berke and Partners.
