Brooklyn Writers Space

About

The Brooklyn Writers Space was founded by playwrights Scott Adkins and Erin Courtney in 2002. Inspired by the Writers Room in Manhattan, Erin and Scott have created a place that is free of distractions like, noisy coffee shops, cramped apartments, cluttered offices, and phones. The space is a dedicated place where writers are free to focus on the task of writing in a professional, respectful, and quiet environment that fosters literary success. Since opening, the Writers Space has served over 1500 writers who have published countless articles, books, dissertations, stage and screen plays, poems, etc.

In 2007, the Brooklyn Writers Space partnered with the Brooklyn Art Space to establish a new kind of environment. Room 58 provides everything the Writer Space does but with an additional room dedicated to phone use so writers can take care of the business side of writing. In addition, Room 58 members share a beautiful bright 10,000 square foot loft space with the visual artist members of the Brooklyn Art Space.

In 2010, the Brooklyn Writers Space opened another quiet only space on Court Street to serve the writers of Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Red Hook and Boerum Hill. This space is a classic Carroll Gardens store front.

All spaces provide writers with a desk, a lamp and a chair on a first come first serve basis. Coffee is always on hand, as well as provide your own paper printing, wi-fi(but if you are trying to get away from the internet we can help you with that too), storage ($30 per quarter), and kitchenette lounge areas for socializing.

Each space is unique by location and by services, the 1st Street location has a roof deck with perennials, Room 58 shares an entrance with Trestle Gallery and a lounge with really comfy couches, and the Court Street location has plenty of books and a comfy reading area. All spaces are accessible 24/7.
