About
BCS celebrates the strength of the human spirit. Our mission is to empower at-risk children, youth and families, and adults with mental illness or developmental disabilities to overcome the obstacles they face, as we strive to ensure opportunity for all to learn, grow and contribute to ONE Brooklyn Community.
This year BCS is excited to celebrate our 150th year of service. The theme of this historic milestone is "Our Purpose is Our Community." It speaks to our history and unwavering commitment to service and uplifting the lives of people living in underserved communities in New York City's largest borough.
Since our founders established BCS in 1866 in response to the plight of disabled Civil War veterans and homeless children, BCS has remained committed to our community and has been on the frontline of every major crisis that Brooklynites have faced. For 150 years, our purpose has been our community.
