"Incongruously located behind Bay Ridge’s Century 21, Grand Sichuan House serves up trademark peppercorns and chiles in a compact interior with butcher paper-lined tables, bold-patterned lamp shades, and red-and-gold paper lanterns," writes Krista Garcia for New York magazine. And the Village Voice claims that they serve the best dan dan noodles in the city: "We were skeptical when a friend raved about an amazing Sichuan restaurant in Bay Ridge, of all places. But now we're converts: Showered with Sichuan peppercorns, the food is just as hot and pungent as anything in Flushing."

"Grand Sichuan in Bay Ridge is ALL THAT... The cumin beef was outrageous, and the ma po tofu had a fabulous spice with a kick of smokey cumin. Even the scallion pancake was delicious," Chowhound secondbecky writes. Eating the World in NYC adds, "I just could not stop eating all the chicken bits, peppercorns, and even a few red peppers from the chong qing spicy chicken ($11.95)... Eating each pepper was an almost spiritual experience, heaven and hell in each bite as sweat started to form on my head and my eyes watered." How would you rate Grand Sichuan House?

love love love LOVE this place
the cumin lamb is incredible
(not the best place for vegetarians or people who don't like spice)

Haven't been there. But I'm going to try this place. It's on my radar. I love spicy food.
Next time I go shop at Century 21, I'll be at Grand Sichuan for lunch.

Thanks to the posters that brought this place to my attention last week, or was it two weeks ago.

It's the real deal. Like Szechuan Gourmet in Manhattan and countless places in Queens, this place serves up real and amazing Szechuan food. Best I've had in Brooklyn. However, if you don't like it spicy don't bother. The non-spicy stuff (Americanized or Cantonese style) are not this restaurant's strength.

We checked it out after a Century 21 run. Dumplings in red oil are literally floating in a sea of generic red oil; soup dumplings are done better elsewhere. We didn't order any of the specials mentioned above, but double-cooked pork was merely okay, and the place is not particularly welcoming or comfortable. Might try again for take-out, but no revelations as a destination.
