"This little place tucked away on the corner of Myrtle and Emerson is a real treasure... I had the smothered pork chops with sides of mashed potatoes and corn, and Mick got the fried chicken wings with mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. Both platters were excellent, if a little, shall we say, heavy. Don't plan on doing anything strenuous after Ruthie's - you won't be able to move," says Clinton Hill Blog.

JJ Goode for New York magazine visits the Downtown Brooklyn location: "The chicken (skip the breast for the thigh-and-leg option) comes out minimally greasy and as crisp as your soul-food-loving heart desires. Yet since there's no heat lamp for your chicken to languish under, you'll have to wait for it, either on the always-long takeout line that jams the front of the tiny, utterly shabby place or at one of half a dozen crammed, sticky-topped tables." How would you rate Ruthie's?

I love Ruthies. I have been going there for years. Mostly to there original spot up on Dekalb and Ashland. Definetly the best soul food in Brooklyn.

Not a fan of "sticky-topped table" joints. If the tables are sticky then there's likely some real surprises going on in the kitchen. But that's just me.
