Mesa Coyoacan

FreeWilliamsburg writes that with Mesa Coyoacan's fair prices and "warm interior (Chino-style wood tables for up to 14; salvaged 1940s wallpaper; and actual family photos hovering over the dining space like a glowering abuelita) you can expect Coyoacan to finally turn the former Pampa Grill space in Graham Ave’s 'Fish Tank' building into the destination those architects clearly meant it to be."
"The food echoes the multiregional snacks you might find on [Mexico City]’s streets: A trio of tamales presents versions from Oaxaca (chicken and mole), Chapas (pork, fruit and nuts) and Veracruz (tilapia with guajillo salsa). Other preparations come straight from the chef’s family, including a secret-recipe ceviche," says Time Out New York.
And Restaurant Girl is a fan of Mesa Coyoacan's black mole: "It's a 37-ingredient mole that requires its own chef and includes six types of chiles, Mexican chocolate, almonds and cinnamon. I highly recommend the enchiladas de mole - moist chicken bathing in smoky-sweet sauce, rolled up in a thick tortilla and crowned with crema fresca, avocado, onion and sesame seeds." What's your take on Mesa Coyoacan?

really good tacos and mole. some miss items on the menu, though. the stuffed pepper, for example, is pretty good. but it comes on an empty plate, is pretty small and is not a good value at $15. everyone who works there is really nice and it's a great space.

We went there when it first opened and had the guacamole and chips, stuffed pepper, and enchiladas verdes. I hate to say it, but it really wasn't very good, and we've never been back.

Went once and did not enjoy it at all. Enchiladas were terrible, guacamole tasted like store bought and the stuffed pepper was almost inedible.

Great decoration, very friendly staff!
The food is very interesting (Mexican fusion?) but the portions are rather small when you are familiar with latino food. Had the Chiles en Nogada which I liked. It would have been perfect without the pomegranate seeds.

This is THE place to go in the 5 boroughs for a sit-down, close as you can get, Mexican food experience. The owner is from Coyoacan and has brought the flavor to Brooklyn. The Sopa Azteca, enchiladas de mole, el tampiqueno, churros, etc is all fantastic. What surprised me was the authenticity of the beans which is where most restaurants fall short. For those of you who are Mexican or in love with real Mexican food, for those of you who have a tia, abuelita, prima o quien sea del DF, or all of the above and you are missing home a bit, me vas a entender cuando te digo que la comida esta chingonsisima.

Hey lostintranslation, Chiles en Nogada without pomegranate seeds is like creme brulee without the creme. It is a national dish served traditionally on Independence Day. The colors represent the colors of the flag and the seeds add an amazing balance.
