"Ah, Buddy's. With your prime Court Street location across from Cobble Hill Cinemas, you've cornered the market for the pre-movie hustle dinner. Yet as diners scarf down remnants of your crumbly burritos (filled with fresh ingredients, from carne asada to jumbo chipotle shrimp) in order to catch that 7 p.m. movie, try to remember that sometimes it is all about location," says Metromix.

Chowhound puppimus says Buddy's is "worth a try if you're in the neighborhood; probably not worth traveling great distances for." But Yelper Jeff M. isn't as kind: "I've been three times somehow and this place has always managed to disappoint me afresh. Maybe it's just my own preference for a little flavor, spice and character in my burritos, but this place is far too much a college haunt in its culinary arrested development." Oof. How would you rate Buddy's?

This place runs circles around the Taquiria up the street, primarily because they cook all their meats to order (unlike the Taq) and it's just fresher ingredients. Only complaint I have is that their rice/bean mix and marinated meats tend to be on the salty side. Perfect hangover food.

After living in San Francisco for 9 years, I must say that nobody--not Calexico or Oaxaca and certainly not Buddy's on the LA Style place on Court and Bergen--has a clue as to how to make a proper Mission style burrito. Which is a damn shame . . .

Why does everyone complain that any burrito outside the mission is not a mission burrito? Get over it. Buddy's is cheap and good.

I love their pork, plain an simple. Nights when the whole block smell of that sweet charred meat, I feel like it is calling me...

Very bad.

What they try to pass off as "guacamole" is a joke.

Lets flip the script........

"After living in Philly for 9 years, I must say that nobody--not ________ or _______ and certainly not _________on the __________--has a clue as to how to make a proper Hoagie. Which is a damn shame . . ."

"After living in NYC for 9 years, I must say that nobody--not ________ or _______ and certainly not _________on the __________--has a clue as to how to make a proper NY pizza slice . Which is a damn shame . . ."

Why is it that ex San Franciscans need everything to be catered to their needs? If you don't like burritos in NY, don't eat them.

By the way, Thai food in NY is nothing like Bangkok.

Get over it.

Where a burrito is created has nothing to do with whether or not it is a Mission style burrito. It has to do with how it is made--a hot pressed tortilla, melted cheese, shredded carnitas all wrapped up in foil--and I have yet to find a place in NYC that can pull it off.

A burrito is not that difficult to make and make well, yet this place disappoints in a big way. Very average and forgettable.

bodhi_brooklyn wrote a review on October 1, 2009 3:18 PM

i think this place is a dumper.

Petebklyn wrote a review on October 1, 2009 4:23 PM

it's a burrito. I want to eat it and forget about it. I don't want to be reminded I ate one. I don't need to pretend it is something special.

C- at best. The Guacamole is pathetic.

It's fine for what it is. $10-12 for a lot of quick food. The SuperVegetarian Burrito is good, so is the Quesadilla. Agree with those who say the Guacamole is terrible, and the Salsa is worse.

I love, love love love - their nachos and their veggie tacos - as for how its supposed to taste if you are elsewhere doesnt matter to me. This place rocks compared to that nasty taquieria on the corner accross the street.

Truly horrifying, disgusting, nasty, inedible burritos. I finally figured out the culprit is the salsa. It tastes like Italian red sauce. Completely gross.

Billiamsburg wrote a review on October 2, 2009 10:04 AM

Yes that 'salsa' is just awful. The veggies are overcooked or overstewed and soggy, flavorless lumps. The meat is unseasoned and dry. I could save myself the trip and spoon Goya direct from a can into my mouth. Just tasteless and textureless.

Two words, 9 syllables........GHETTO!!!!

I have seen mice and cockroaches in the place.

Food is below average, overpriced and the salsa tastes like someone took a piss in it- for real. Stay away.
