Italian, Brunch Spot

"In a neighborhood packed with Italian options, from old-school Italian-American restaurants to contemporary pan-Italian boîtes, Pane e Vino doesn't impress... Ingredients sometimes lack bite and that hand-packed fresh quality, and simple fish preparations fall flat. Pastas, the one bright light, are expertly done—intelligently sauced, with a good variety of options," writes Andrew Sessa for New York magazine.

"But, the real attraction may not be the food; instead, the attractive garden and the rotating live music at night, which can range from salsa to jazz to classical," says Metromix. And Yelper Abbey C. likes the place: "They have a large, covered garden area in the back that is green and lovely --adds to the relaxed, casual mood of the place. The brunch prices are very reasonable -- my pancakes came with coffee and a drink for $10.50. The food was good, not remarkable, but tasty." What's your take on Pan e Vino?

yeeps. i thought this was the same restaurant as panino-teca (which had GREAT reviews but closed). brunch on smith street is generally pretty underwhelming though the pancakes at cafe luluc are the BEST plain pancakes.

They actually spell it Pane e Vino.

In any case, it's one of the most reasonably-priced brunches in the area. An entree, coffee or tea and a drink cost only $11. Once time I went a nice basket of pastries was included too, but another time it wasn't, so who knows. Is the food amazing? Well, no. But it's good enough.

Not only does the food suck, but the idiots who both run and patronize this place give all restaurants with outdoor space a bad name. They regularly play their music too loud and proudly serve tequila shots in the back garden at all hours to their meat-headed clientele, with zero regard for anyone in earshot. Given the plethora of great restaurants on Smith, definitely give this one a pass.

This place is disgusting. I had one of the nastiest meals here recently. And that covered "garden" is a sham. There are SO many better places, even at "reasonable" prices it's not worth it.

Didn't like the service. Not great food either. I had some special online offer from coupons.com or something, and when I was unable to use it because of some fine print, I got a smug look from the server.

Only if every other place in the area is closed... Just not in the same category.

The $11 brunch seems like a good deal, but that includes *one* cup of coffee -- if you agree to a refill, an additional $2 will show up on your bill. $13 for basic brunch on Smith is nothing special.
The decor inside is quite nice, food was pretty good, and our waiter (despite hamhandedly trying to flirt with a lesbian woman in my party) served us well. The reason I don't plan to go back is their Health Department report (filed under Food for People, which is on their sign as a subtitle in really small print).

Very unimpressive. I wanted to like it, but my pasta dish was drowning in a heavy sauce. I recall the husband liking the steak (?) but it was not worth the price. We haven't been back.

The ambience is very inviting, though!

Have to speak up for a local spot. Grilled steak (w/mushrooms; Tagliata?) is the usual choice. Grilled vegetables w/mozzerella is very good. Prices are avg for quality of food relative to other Smith Street options of which there are ample choices, including several high quality ingredient and authentic Italian restaurants that perform higher in the food category. Overall, remains in the delivery rotation.
