Foodswings

"Owner Freedom Porio-Tripodi is a fabulously named, life-loving vegan who just happens to crave every American’s birthright: greasy diner food. Instead of marinated tofu and bean sprouts, the menu lists animal-free, road-trip-worthy pleasures like faux fish sticks, soy-cheese nachos and a tempeh Reubenesque sandwich," says Time Out New York.
"The 'chicken' drumsticks in Buffalo, barbecue, and Southern-fried versions particularly impress, approximating their free-range equivalent in taste and texture—though diners should beware the chopstick-like bone at their center," writes Andrew Sessa for New York magazine. And Yelper Jae K. raves, "The milkshakes seriously people, if you're vegan or not amazing. AMAZING. Try the Tank (chocolate and peanut butter). It's heaven." How would you rate Foodswings?

Heh - a vegan restaurant a block from Walter Foods. No wonder I never noticed it.

This is the most unhealthy processed food I have ever eaten! I could not find anything green on the menu. Vegan food can be comfort food without all the fake processed meats, and fake cheese. I had a horrible stomach ache after eating here. ick!

Cute name. And I disagree about vegan food. It cannot be comfort food. Unless you are vegan, then it's just... food.

The use of the word "pleasures" and the phrase "faux fish sticks" in the same sentence strikes me as highly improbable.

faux meat is hilarious.

From what I could tell the few times I ordered from here, everything was soy. And isn't soy supposed to be bad? Nonetheless, it seems popular. I didn't like the milkshakes.

I never knew vegan food could be so filthy, but this stuff really is. That said, it's not too bad when you're super drunk and just looking for some late night sustenance. It always makes me feel dirty, but that's not always a bad thing.

hi heather. there have been some studies that have shown excessive levels of soy intake can result in higher breast cancer rates but further testing does not appear to support it. eating soy occasionally (or even every day like they do in asia) most likely has more health benefits than negative side effects. i would expect that would apply to soy eaten in less processed forms, like real soy milk or tofu or edamame versus these weird fake meat concoctions.

I had heard Freedom doesn't own the place anymore... and that it has suffered since.

My vegan daughter made me take her here five times this summer. Seems silly to copy the worst type of menu health wise but fun to go anyway. Staff nice, good enjoyable and quick. Chicken caeser good, heart attack on a plate fine, fries decent. Agree with comment above about wings, things on a stick. Daughter likes those best.
Contrast btw metal music and vegan adds something.

So... a few more days and we will have covered this block and a half of Grand Street.

Still need Vutera
Kinda sad a 2 block stretch of Grand has a better collection of places than some neighborhoods.
