Tacos Nuevo Mexico

"Recently, Tacos Nuevo Mexico revamped its menu, clearly to cater more to the growing number of non-Mexican residents in the neighborhood, and is now renovating its bar to look more yuppified... Happily, it's still definitely the best in the area, outside of Sunset Park... Tacos Nuevo Mexico now serves a Tex-Mex fajita, but it also still serves veal brain tacos and a chile-heavy tripe soup. Everyone wins," writes Sarah DiGregorio for Fork in the Road.
"The mole sauce is outstanding, especially when slathered over plump enchiladas. The warmth of its flavor—earthy roasted chilies tinged with chocolate and cinnamon—toasts the back of your throat. Among comfort foods you'll find pozole, the Michoacán version of pork broth with hominy and cabbage," writes Jennifer Paull for New York magazine. And blogger Food in Mouth says that Nuevo Mexico's tacos are "not as cheap as the ones in Sunset Park or as authentic as the ones on the West coast, but I love them. They're well worth a try for anyone who loves roasted pork with charred bits." How would you rate this place?

I absolutely LOVE this place.
The food is always delicious.

Please. Nobody go there. I want the cheap and appallingly delicious carnitas plate all to myself.

YAY! i didnt know of this place, but it's now on top of the list. the other "mexican" places in P.S. are sad, and i'm boggled everytime i pass by los pollitos on 5th and see it packed. i curse those gringos' bad taste.

The food here is off the charts good. None of that mediocre tex mex, everything covered in cheese crap. This competes with anything you'll find in sunset park and the new renovation spruces things up nicely. I'd highly recomend, it's great food at a great price. If you haven't been there, check it out.

Don't tell people to go there! The prices will keep going up!
It's really disgusting. I think they keep rats in the kitchen.

This is one of the best places in the neighborhood. We eat there at least once a week. I LOVE their tortas, probably the best I've had in NYC. They also make 3-4 different types of hot sauce, all very tasty. They recently added live music a few nights a week which is nice, but I miss the charm of the old space next door. Breakfast specials are excellent too!

Not only will I go there, I will try to convince them to increase their prices by paying double what they charge me!

Had a late lunch Monday night.
Although the only Mexican patron at the time, the authenticity of the joint is still quite found.
The tortas are good- but not the best,
El Sol de Cholula is where you'll find these.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSS! Another one of my favorite quick bite places. I liked when it looked like a Mexican cafeteria and I like now. Salted Beef and Tongue Tacos how can you go wrong. Also try the Carnitas platter. It is some of the most authentic Mexican food I have found in NYC! Plus they are open late, deliver late and fast! And you can get a good meal for a good price

I wanted to like this place, but it's a MAJOR letdown for those on a vegetarian diet. Honestly the whole meal seemed pretty bland and uninspired to me. Plus they were out of guacamole somehow! I've had much tastier fare at Rachel's and Taqueria...

I've been a customer for years. It used to just be me, a few random caballeros, and two little hot chicas serving tortas. . . Screw the yuppies. If I return, I'm going to make sure to go for a long sweaty run first. Dripping with sweat is the best way to eat carnitas and drink cold beer.

I could mix and match their DELICIOUS $2-2.50 tacos for hours. HOURS.

ate there on Sunday. It was hands down the best mexican food I've had recently. service was lovely, and the space is very cool.

I've never eaten at the restaurant, but I've ordered their "Lengua al Vapor" many times and thought it was fantastic. The presentation is nice too - a completely recognizable tongue cut into a few pieces laid out on rice, beans and all sorts of other stuff. I think I'm going to have to order it tonight.

Haven't been since the remodel...I liked the dingy old place but if the food is still as great as it was I'll be happy. Great pozole soup!

This is a no-brainer. Great food that tastes clean and transparent at very good prices. A neighborhood stand-out.

I recall going to the old version of this place a few years ago, and it being pretty bad all around. This new version though, which I finally checked out the other week, is quite an improvement. It felt cozy, unlike most other Mexican places in the neighborhood (perhaps except for Rincon, further down on 5th Ave), jolly crowd, and just generally good vibes, and tons of food.
