Perch Cafe

"During the day, kids can snack on ants on a log while parents recharge with lattes, pastries and light lunch fare (Wi-Fi, too). In the evenings, the lights dim and out come the beer, wine, cocktails and twists on classic American favorites," says Time Out New York.
"The space’s Scandinavian-modern design—pale wood and bamboolike reeds, red-and-white color scheme—is unpretentious and cheerful. So is the food: granola and yogurt, waffles, market-fresh salads, savory sandwiches... Red onion and scallions add depth to a creamy macaroni and cheese, wasabi adds punch to a tuna-salad sandwich, and a peach melba features grilled instead of poached fruit," writes Andrew Sessa for New York magazine.
Yelper Chris H. adds, "The venue is kid friendly, with its small collection of toys, open play areas, and child friendly policies. It's also adult friendly, with happy hour specials, well made cocktails, and an eclectic assortment of brews on tap." How would you rate Perch Cafe?

The drinks are HUGE. One martini was the size of a swimming pool. BUT -- the food ain't that great. Pretty much everything is reheated in the microwave.

Nothing special, given the other choices nearby. Have some good events once in a while.

Nothing special. Good place just to drink and use your laptop. Food is mediocre - something to munch on.
Service is excruciatingly slow.

It's a good place for breakfast or light brunch. Cure interior, nice little outdoor space. Don't go on a weekday morning unless you are highly child tolerant.

or so says the neon sign.

Nice design. Crap food. A croque monsieur is ham and cheese on toast.

Worst french toast ever.

I think someone should be designated to print out the ROTD threads and post them on the restaurants door!
Not it!!!
(but it would probably increase the caliber of Brooklyn restaurants if they knew how people really felt about them).
Never been tempted to try this place before, and this thread makes me realize why that was.

Agree all around. Very cute as a cafe. But it thinks it's a restaurant--and prices accordingly--and it's not. You can eat better for the same price or less many places along this stretch. Even, and I never thought I would write this, at the vegan sandwich place.

Nix on this place; I went in with 6 friends for light supper and the service was inept and rude, the food unmemorable. Quirky decor didn't make up for it.
