"Purity predates Park Slope’s post-eighties resurgence, although it moved from its reliably grungy North Slope location to a more upscale, center-Slope corner, complete with exposed-brick walls and plate-glass windows, at the turn of the millennium," writes Helen Zelon for New York magazine.

"During the week you'll find local workers and lots of hospital folks grabbing a bite to eat during their busy day, but on the weekend the brunch set fills in, and the restaurant is crowded and bustling. You'll wait a few minutes, but not too long, as the turnover is quick and the venue is not for dilly-dallyers," says Metromix of Purity Diner.

Eat It: The Brooklyn Food Blog reports on a weekday breakfast at the Diner's offshoot, Little Purity: "Big booths line the wall by the windows, tables are in the center of the room and there are stools at the counter near the kitchen. You also get bottomless cups of coffee and you can sit there for what feels like forever, chatting and relaxing, even after you've done eating." What's your take on these places?

Purity is bland at best.

Little Purity aspires to mediocrity and misses the mark.

Daisy's on 5th is better than both of these by a long shot, and the Fifth Avenue Diner is better than Daisy's.

They can't poach eggs. 'nuff said

Purity is ok. The one that's down on 7th and 7th makes a decent girlled chicken salad. It's a diner - so you shouldn't really expect truffle oil in your scrambled eggs sorta thing, ya know?

sorry, but the food is bad here. my kids like it, though.

My kids like Daisey's (isn't that how they spell it?) I still miss Benny's, in the space now occupied by that horrific Dizzy's.

Eh. It's a diner. It's diner food. Don't expect anything spectacular and you won't be disappointed. The one closest to NYM Hospital has served me well for when I'd get out of the E.R. super late and just wanted to munch on something. Outside of that, this place is nothing to get excited about.

Just OK. Very average diner food, sometimes reaches the heights of 'pretty good'. The owners and servers, especially at Big Purity, are great.

I've never been to the Little Purity, although every time I read the sign, I mentally append the words, "...but Much Depravity." I liked the old one for its quintessential Greek Diner-ness (and the paradox of its scuzziness versus its name); I'd take my toddler daughter in after a Mommy-and-me session at Jennifer Kliegel's now-gone dance studio on Union St., and we would always order grilled cheese and a thick shake; after delivering them to our table, the old waiter would repair to the sidewalk for a smoke. It seemed like a link to the semi-sketchy Slope of the past, which was already fast expiring a decade ago. Without its in-situ history, there seems little reason to go to the Little Purity.

I used to live in North Slope and when few times to the original Purity dinner, Evry time I went was more disappointing than the last time, the service was rude and stupid, the food wasn't good and to top it off these people are really filthy.
Last time I went (my 4th time) I refused to eat the toast that I saw being handle without glove after the girl was "fixing" something in her nose. I banned this place from my list for life, even if they move to heaven.

Been to the big Purity a few times. The food is meh, but it's an easy no-fuss kind of place, and a good space to sit and chat or read while grabbing lunch.
The servers have always been pleasant & fast.

I agree that the food's nothing special - typical diner fare, but for the genre, it's fine. I've found the service quite nice - we've often gotten a very friendly waitress. Our kids love going there, and while we don't go often (we prefer to cook ourselves), it's kind of a fun & relaxing treat on occasion to get greasy spoon food, cheap.

I think Purity is a classic example of what you see is what you get. Certainly not a place where one would go for a spectacular meal, but the fare and service are more than OK. I would hope that there still room in Park Slope for a regular diner such as Purity, which has its own particular balance of imperfections and charms.
