Italian, Pizza

Francesco.jpg
"A checkerboard floor and glass, lantern-style lamps set a family-friendly tone. Half the restaurant is devoted to a takeout, with a traditional pizza counter and sidewalk window, while the other half offers waiter service," writes Justin Hartung for Citysearch.

New York magazine's Krista Garcia writes, "The menu spans hearty Italian-American classics; a simple pairing of crisp-edged slices of breaded eggplant with sweet sausage is as filling as it is tasty. Ziti Bolognese is rich and meaty, and the portion is so large it may feed a family of four. Veal Parmigiana is pounded thin, smothered in tangy marinara, and generously topped with melted mozzarella."

And Eat It calls Francesco's "one of my go-to places for slices and some of the best Eggplant Parmigiana Hero sandwiches around... With gobs of melted mozzarella oozing out, and the bread a touch burnt on the ends, it's such a hearty meal, we split it in two!" What's your take on this place?

My go-to delivery place gets featured! The pizza is ok, sometimes it's a little underdone to my liking but nothing that can't be solved with 10-15 minutes more in the oven. Prices are cheap when you factor in that they don't charge tax (I always find that tax comes out to much more than I expect, yeah I know it's supposed to be 8+%). Chicken dishes are really good, love the chicken marsala and francese and the rollatini, the parm is ok. The portions are huge. Meat dishes come with a side of pasta with tomato sauce, which without fail is pretty gross. The main dish pastas are quite good though, especially the ziti with vodka sauce (huge portion) and the orrechiete with italian sausage. They deliver fast. All deliveries come with a hunk of almost stale italian bread but it gets the job done.

We've been ordering pizza and rolls from Francesco's (and its former iteration, Nino's) since we moved to the neighborhood 5 years ago. Sadly, the pizza isn't very consistent, but much better than Sam's on Court. I recall the pizza being better when the restaurant was Nino's, but they do deliver fairly quickly. Haven't had their pasta dishes in a while, so I will refrain from commenting on those dishes.

The chicken parm is one of the best around. The only better chicken parm is at a place called Pepe Verde on Hudson st.

Don't do go for the Pizza, go for the steam table. Chicken, veal, fish, veggies... all are awesome and well priced. I eat dinner here at least once a week.

Was so much better under the Nino's ownership. It is too inconsistent. The pizza is better than Sam's and well priced but you never know what you gonna get.

Sals is the best pizza in the area, but they are too expensive.
