Sputnik
Sputnik surprised NeighborBeeBlog: "I was expecting a Russian-themed bar: stark atmosphere and twenty different types of vodka chased with pumpernickel bread. (Think Pravda on Lafayette Street.) Instead, Sputnik was a surprisingly bright restaurant with bar seating. With funky sixties-era lamps hanging from high ceilings, Sputnik reminded me more of the Jetsons than the Iron Curtain."
Sputnik is best known as a bar and performance space for years, but they've been serving burgers, bar snacks, wraps, and salads for over a year now. Blogger That These Those Them says that they serve "all 100% organically grown meats that are free of growth hormones and antibiotics, and the poultry is free range. While I’m hooked on the beef, turkey, and veggie burgers, ala The Sputnik style [with American cheese, bacon, onion rings, and sweet pickle relish], braver patrons get a choice of Chicken, Ostrich, Elk, or Bison."
And Yelper Minna K. is a fan of their food and their eco-friendliness: "Their Parmesan dusted fries (WITH skin) are addicting and their onion rings are nice and hefty (don't forget to ask for the chipotle-mayo dip)... Plus, they use biodegradable take-out-ware." How would you rate this place?

There menu must have changed. We went years ago when it first opened and had some edible but uninspiring cheeseburgers. I actually thought they had stopped serving food.

SO the name has more to do with the design and less with the cuisine, eh? I love that space-age, "Jetsons"-esque aesthetic. That's what my kitchen looks like.

They play the music too loud for me to enjoy going there. I know this is a sign of getting old, but so be it.
