"This tiny corner bakery, an old-timer that's something of an institution in Carroll Gardens, is busy throughout the day: Regulars line up in the morning for freshly brewed coffee and pastries, and return in the evening to pick up straight-from-the-oven bread for dinner," writes Simon Spelling for New York magazine.

Eat It calls Mazzola's "So efficient and fast, but warm and friendly at the same time. At night you can smell the fresh baking bread wafting around the block. It's one of my most favorite things about the neighborhood."

Yelper Erica F. says, "The coffee is delicious. The chocolate croissants are to die for." And fellow Yelper P-Rock F. writes, "How can you go to this bakery and not buy some lard bread? It was heavenly- soft bread flavored with cheese and chunks of salami baked right in. Awesome." What's your take on Mazzola?

This is what a neighborhood bakery should be. Great bread, lots of different kinds, good coffee. Even when there's a line (all of the time) it moves pretty quickly. Whenever I go to a dinner party, I bring lard bread, and people love me for it. And the neighborhood constantly smells like fresh baked bread.

Yep, lard bread is great. I also like the Tuscan loaf.

Did they redo the outside overnight? It looks totally different than I think it looks .. . . Anyway: Mazzola's is GREAT. Their cookies are wonderful. They are regular ordinary Italian cookies except somehow way better. And their breads are terrific too. What "Eat It" says about the nighttime baking smell wafting around the block is so true. It's heady. It's also true that they are warm and friendly. I've never had an unpleasant experience in Mazzola's and I've been going there regularly since Cammerari's closed.

When we moved out of CG, I knew that Mazzola's would be one of the things I missed the most. We try to stop by whenever we're in the hood.

I too used to bring lard bread to parties and be loved for it. Now I just have to try to get by on personality.

The ham & cheese croissant is awesome too.

One time our puppy who is a hundred pouns and barely 6 months old - got out of his collar and made a mad dash into Mazzolas Our walker was mortifed of course but found him safely inside on line. He has probaly wanted something from there for so long since the scent perfumes Henry street everyday.

They have many other breads for those who arent fond of meat chunks in their bread, like a spinach and cheese, or the plain cheese filled not to mention the choclate baguette. The best item of all I wont even mention as I am fraid there will be a run for it.

Fantastic bread, especially the whole wheat baguette and lard bread. Skip the rest.

We lived on this block for about 5 years, and woke up each morning to the wonderful spell of freshly baked bread. God I miss it!

despite the terrible name, the lard bread is insanely good.

Sounds good, wish my Mazzola's on Court street that was rename a few years ago would stay open at dinner time and have that great sounding bread too.
