Korzo

Formerly known as Eurotrip (and recommended as such by appoggiatura), this South Slope spot still focuses on the flavors of Central Europe without bringing to mind a gross-out teen movie. "The menu modernizes Central European dishes—a slawlike salad of celery and green apple with walnuts salutes Germany, and halušky spaetzle topped with mild bryndza sheep’s-milk cheese and bits of bacon presents a slightly lighter, Hungarian spin on macaroni and cheese. Plump pierogis, generously stuffed with pork, sauerkraut, potatoes and cheese, or spinach and mushroom, get a drizzle of beet sauce and sour-cream mousse," writes Kathleen Squires for New York magazine.
"The kitchen serves Mittel-European comfort food in what might be called recession-era portions... There is a heartfelt attempt to support central European viniculture, but it is better to... stick to what the region does best, and choose from the 20-plus different beers, including a handful on tap, such as the creamy Bavarian hefeweizen ($6 pint). It is exactly the right companion for the Wanderwurst ($11), three different grilled sausages stacked on a pile of sautéed onions and warm sauerkraut," writes Oliver Schwaner-Albright for the New York Times.
"The brunch menu has everything from breakfast items to salads to sandwiches. I had the sausage omelet which was savory and perfectly done. My omelet came with a side of potatoes and a savory-sweet slaw concoction. Yum. My wife had the Belgian waffle topped with fruit and whipped cream, and which came with a side of lingonberry yogurt, all of which she said was amazing," writes Yelper Justin R. Was just in last week and asked about the name change. They said they are adding 'small plates' to the menu, maybe to get more bar clientele. But it was good as always, had an excellent smoky gazpacho.

I never stopped by because I was turned off by the original name. I'm glad they changed it, maybe now others will give it a shot!

I wondered at the former name as well, even though I had been told that they have good food and excellent service. Maybe I'll stroll on down the block and give it a shot.

Another of my wife's and my favorite places in the 'hood. The only thing I'd like to see them add to the menu is Hungarian iced cherry soup.

Thank God they changed that name. Now I won't be embarrassed to walk in and try it. :-)

I love (the thankfully renamed) Korzo - the mains are always great, but I love getting dessert and a beer here before heading home. The beers on tap are always superb, and staff are always super friendly. I wish they would make that back room feel a bit less cave like, though.

What do I have to do to make the owner not sit with me at the bar? He was clearly inebriated, hit on my girlfriend, insulted the chef and waitress several times. There's a great beer selection but he served us the wrong kind - twice. And the same drinks got more expensive as the night wore on - it was like the owner wanted us to stop bothering him with our orders. The langos is acceptible, but he tried to charge us for four servings when there were only three of us. As good as the food was, the owner's rudeness left a bad taste in our mouth. When this place opened last year it looked promising but now, after a suspicious name change, its about as charming as white castle.

The food is only OK. and I find the owner, Otto, to be the most boorish man I've ever encountered. I've witnessed him leering at female customers, waiting tables with a scowl on his face and drunkenly cursing the staff. I won't be back. Do the neighborhood a favor and spend your money elsewhere. It's too bad really because the Euro beer selection and fried bread are great but I won't patronize a place with such an awful owner.
