"A Mexico City native chef takes over the Dumbo General Store kitchen, drawing Manhattanites and locals into his light, art-filled, communal table-enabled dining room for what some are saying is the best homemade Mexican in the borough," says Metromix. New York magazine describes Hecho en Dumbo's small plates as "Mexican tapas or as distinctively delicious bar food... This is not the place to stanch a gargantuan appetite, or to gulp down massive combination plates of gloppy sauces and blankets of goopy cheese until your eyes bubble. You won’t miss any of that, though, after a bite of the ensalada rosaura, a citrusy thatch of julienned cabbage, queso fresco, and slivered avocado, sprinkled with crispy bits of fried hibiscus flower."

"My favorite dish by far was a tasty crabmeat appetizer--real crabmeat and avocado topping a delicious corn 'pancake.' ...The plates are small, but they are robust and filling and felt like the perfect amount. I will be returning, again and again!" writes Chowhound curly30. Fellow 'Hound bread for breakfast recommends the Hecho en Dumbo sampler plate: "It's $18 $20 and can easily feed 2, especially if you start off with the guacamole appetizer. You'll get a great (and filling) assortment of foods (burritas, tacos, arepas, a bruschetta-ish dish, etc.)." And Chowhound NYJewboy simply states, "The burritas are some of the best Mexican items in the city. Glory." What are your thoughts on Hecho en Dumbo?

I was just there last night and thought it was great. Brought me back to Mexico City in terms of taste and presentation, which just about no other NY Mexican restaurants do. The kitchen really knows what it's doing, and they pour a mean margarita.

i dont get it. i went by a few times during the day hoping for mex food and it was regular american brunch. is there a secret handshake to get the mexican menu? dinner only? weekends or weekdays only?

Go to the bathroom, it's in the back, pull out the toilet paper. Not a single piece but the entire roll. Then Whistle the theme for the Alamo, backwards. This will open a secret door to the back. Inside is a world of beautiful, friendly and naked waiters serving the most delicious food in the world! After the meal you get a yummy desert that includes a massage and the happiest of endings.

Actually they only serve 'Hecho en Dumbo" food at dinner time.
