Fast and Fresh Deli

Fast and Fresh Deli's bodega-esque exterior is just a front for the operation that's going on behind their lunch counter this under-the-radar spot is serving some of the neighborhood's most addictive Mexican fare. "The exterior of the deli may look sketchy, but the food definitely isn't! ...My friend ordered three burritos, and wanted to cry because they were so good," says Yelper cat j. Fellow Yelper Nate S. says, "'Fresh' is the right descriptor: the ingredients are high-quality, and the tacos are well balanced and served with slices of lime and lots of cilantro...When in doubt, lean toward the pork products (chorizo, pastor) which are excellent."
Eat to Blog shares a photo of a delicious-looking torta and writes, "The bread at Fast and Fresh is slightly toasted to give the sandwich a nice crispy texture... Chunks of avocado, carnitas, and tomatoes kept falling out of the sandwich." Chowhound gangly handful adds, "It is probably not 'the best in NY,' but the burritos at Fast and Fresh Deli on Hoyt just above Atlantic are very very good. The only drawback? They close at 6:30, which is before I get home from work." (The take-out menu says Fast and Fresh serves food until 7pm except on Sundays, when it stops serving food at 6:30pm.) What's your take on this place?

I've had their tamales and they are very good. I recall that there is an outdoor seating area out back, nothing fancy...

WOW.....I love this place. It's got a real divey yard where you can sit and eat & drink. But more importantly, they make their own tamales (pork, chicken, or cheese) and they are really fantastic. I usually get 6-8 of them to bring home and freeze. The pulled pork ones are the best. I've asked a number of people from restauraants in the area if they knew of this place and none of them do. It never seems to have anyone in there except latins...which is good.

My first comment! :) Fast and Fresh is well-named. I used to take my sons there to get some yummy deli on weekends. Lots of memories, lots of sandwiches!

Love this place. The marinated pork tacos are awesome! The proprietors are also super nice.

I also love this place-I used to go for huevos rancheros in the morning for a few cents more than coffee in The Victory cafe.(which I also like)
I've not tried everything but never been disappointed and there's a nice busy vibe in the place. Try it!

Fast & Fresh tacos are uneven, but really tasty when good. They're pretty tasty when not so good, too. Ask for extra salsa in case the meat is dried out. My favorites are chicken and pork. All have flavorful tender (or dry) meat bits served on soft, fresh corn tortillas with cilantro and delicious salsa. One lime wedge is provided per taco. $6 for 3! $2.50 each, but they always give me three when I ask for two. I guess they figure only an idiot would get 2 for $5 when you could get 3 for $6. Tamales are excellent, too. I think they're $2?
As for sketchy exterior, Rob, when I tell people where Fast & Fresh is they pull a blank until I tell them it's the place you would go for cigarettes after a couple drinks at Kili Bar across the street. They immediately know which unlikely looking place I'm talking about.
I personally love the back yard. It's dappled shade over cheap plastic tables and rickety chairs on concrete. You share it with construction workers eating roast beef on white with mayo and Latinos eating the good stuff.
