Carroll Gardens Classic Diner

Carroll Gardens Classic Diner (formerly known as Salonike) gets an A from the Brooklyn Diners blog, which describes the servers as "Friendly and accommodating; they don't care how long you sit there and they're not eye-roll-y about special requests... Very peaceful place to sit with a coffee and a glass of juice and read a book on a weekday morning."
Gothamist's Hungry Cabbie is also a big fan of the place: "Even their coleslaw and pickles are delicious. But it is their reuben sandwich that calls me to Salonike like a siren. The corned beef melts in my mouth along with the plentiful cheese and the sour kraut is crunchy enough to survive the piping hot sandwich."
Chowhound Larry Brooks says, "I think their matzo ball soup is wonderful. VERY standard diner fare but dependable." And fellow 'Hound mjr_inthegardens describes it simply: "Clean, Friendly, 24 hours." How would you rate Carroll Gardens Classic Diner?

Listen, very straight forward standard diner. Not much to say about the food, but the staff is wonderful. They are always friendly, accommodating and relaxed. It can be a welcome relief from some of the "scienier" places on Smith.

Watch out! Blogging about restaurants with empty strollers outside can lead to a real sh*tstorm in the comments section: http://ditmaspark.blogspot.com/2008/03/pomme-de-terre-first-look.html

only redeeming quality to me was that it was open late. very standard and average, not a 1st choice at all.
apparently the parent couldnt handle the baby and deposited it in the ATM hoping it would mature in a few years.

It's the classic diner that every Brooklyn neighborhood should have. Homemade cole slaw to die for (with raisins!), burger deluxe platters falling off the plate, darn good pancakes.....
Staff is unbelievably accommodating....twice they have come through for me when there was a sudden (24 hour notice) need to feed 20 family members for dinner in a place accessible by stroller and wheelchair alike.

Isn't the Donut House no longer in existence?

I can't even rate this place. Talk about average. The best thing i can say about it that it's convenient after a night of drinking. The worst thing i can say is that I don't like their style of fries. They're the thick ones that are always a little mealy and limp. yuck.

Fast, friendly service of really blah food, and that's on a good night.

I agree with BoD. Prices are really high. Most items are add ons or al la carte so it adds up quickly. Simple breakfast for myself and 5yo daughter was $28. A/c is never on even on warm days.
Daisy's diner on 5th ave is way better and more reasonably priced.

It's cheaper to drive to NJ or Long Island and eat at a classic diner there than to walk the 2 blocks to this Diner and have the world's most overpriced diner fare
