Bar Toto comes with recommendations from oe, new2hood, SnarkSlope, and jww. Time Out New York says, "This attractive corner restaurant consists of one large room, open in the center, with tables aligned against banquettes along two walls. The arrangement is stroller-friendly for early family dinners and supportive of the bar scene that comes later (happy hour starts at 11pm)."

"The owners of Brooklyn’s Bar Toto could hang one of those signs you see outside 14th Street discount stores: EVERYTHING $14 AND UNDER... Though every low-budget restaurateur these days seems to worship at the altar of the three P’s—pizza, pasta, and panini—Toto does them better than most," says New York magazine.

And Epicurious Jennie is a fan of Bar Toto's brunch: "The Eggs De Parma, are two eggs stacked and baked on a piece of flatbread with onion, prosciutto, and provolone cheese served with a side of fries. Yum, yum, yum." How would you rate this place?

This place rocks. Excellent food at reasonable prices. Since Toto is often packed, consider trying their alter ego Bar Tano on 3rd Avenue at 9th Street. I believe they also recently opened a place on 8th Avenue at 13th Street.

The building is great. They deserve props / a visit just for restoring the facade and cornice detailing so well. The food? Not bad, not bad. The panini's the best of the three "P's".

I really like this place - good solid food and it's nice to sit outside.

Rob: trying to recall from my time as an exchange student in Venice, Italy but I think that in Italian, "toto" means "all"...

I used to live a block away from this place for a number of years after it opened. It's not the best food, but for the price you can't beat it anywhere in the south slope - at least you couldn't as of January of 2007 when I moved to the north slope.

This place and Steinhof were my favorite cheap restaurants.

Interior is nice and sitting outside is also just as enjoyable. Food is decent if not spectacular. Sometimes they must worry about vampires in this place as they hammer most plates with garlic. A bit overbearing at times as much as I like the stuff.

Tano is more beautiful, and has better staff. However the location of Tano isn't to be as desired (on 3rd ave.) as Toto. Both are nice, I heard the owner is a wacko though.

I've had everything at least five times- really. The owner is a good friend of mine and I help him out, thus- lots of food from Toto and Tano. My faves are the Cubano Italliano, and Philly pannini for lunch. My wife is a fan of the PPP (Penne Peas Prosciutto) and the Balagonese pastas. Also the pizzas are really nice because they are made on a grill. Overall, Toto is a great value.

This is my wife's and my favorite neighborhood spot. It's really good food and service, with a nice (and, thank goodness for us, stroller-friendly) atmosphere. They've obviously hit on a good mix, as Bar Tano in Gowanus (which we also try to patronize) shows. I seem to recall I saw something, maybe on this site, that the owners are opening a third location. I wish them the best of luck and much continued success.

Great family place, good food, consistent quality at a fair price. I recommend the antipasto and the desserts.

To the first poster, the owner named it after his mother.

i get the veggie burger pannini, french fries and Peroni every time i go, so i guess my feedback is limited. that said, i love it. i also admire the interior every time i go in there; what they have done with the space is beautiful. my only complaint is the service, which i have found to be a bit spotty (aside from the bartender, who is consistently excellent).

additional perk in the warmerish months is the outdoor seating, which is also great, especially since 6th ave is not a heavy traffic avenue.

ditto what others have said about sister joint Tano. but be warned, i don't think they have french fries there. they do a round fried chip thing instead.

Yes it has good food and good service, a nice little place close at hand. Only thing is - there are two kinds of restaurants in this city, ones that make you deaf and ones that don't. Shriekingly loud inside, which I guess is the mark of success...try it when you can grab an outside table some night.
