Naidre's in Park Slope was recommended to us by gemini10, and the Naidre's in Carroll Gardens gets a thumbs up from Ljubitca. New York magazine's Drew Pisarra describes the Park Slope location: "Naidre's dining area is so small—six tiny tables—that customers quickly realize securing a seat isn't always an option. This counter deli and breakfast nook is primarily for folks on the go."

Time Out New York describes the Carroll Gardens branch: "Tin ceilings and shelves lined with antique Argentine cookie jars and old coffeepots give the place a general-store vibe—although a salvaged bakery sign indicates that this spot was once the bakery that Cher made famous in Moonstruck. The same goods served in the Slope are scrawled on a chalkboard menu with a few comfort-food additions like turkey meatloaf, mac and cheese, and burgers."

"The gourmet sandwich menu is full of slight twists on the originals. The TBLT, turkey, bacon, lettuce and tomato with herb mayo on a thick ciabatta bread, satisfies the hearty appetite. For a lighter bite, try the tangy tarragon chicken salad on a thin slice of multigrain bread," writes Citysearch's Erin Behan. How would you rate this place?

Are they both waiting for the bus?

About the restaurant, this place is such a dive. I don't go anymore, but when I did I felt like shaking out my bag for wayward crawlers when I left.

Cafe Grumpy just opened last week across the street from here.

I'm afraid that's not going to be excellent news for Naidres, because Grumpy has some of the best coffee you'd ever taste. They do the whole clover machine thing and their coffee was selected as the best coffee in NYC in 2009 by Time Out I think.

If I wasn't a big guy myself I'd be ripping into this picture. I actually know what it's like to be watching what you eat and the minute you want to reward yourself with a cookie, etc. all people see the fat person eating.

daveinbedstuy wrote a review on June 26, 2009 12:32 PM

Clover machines are $11,000 and use a mathematicl algorithm. I've never had a coffee from one but I'm dying to try.

Does this place have a Clover?

Joe from Brooklyn wrote a review on June 26, 2009 12:35 PM

Oh, Cafe Grumpy has it, never mind...

brownstoner wrote a review on June 26, 2009 12:37 PM

Yes, not sure why a bunch of you thought it was cool to make fun of the physical attributes of these people...it's not.

PitbullNYC wrote a review on June 26, 2009 12:38 PM

i dont think i could ever bring myself to drink coffee from 11,000 dollar coffee machine. talking about ridiculous snootitude.

*rob*

goldie wrote a review on June 26, 2009 12:44 PM

rob, the coffee from the clover machine is SUBLIME! obviously you need fine and properly roasted beans (i like ethiopian yirgacheffe). you know coffee is good when you dont need to put sugar or milk in it.

regardless, i'm going to try out naidres after work today.

Joe from Brooklyn wrote a review on June 26, 2009 12:46 PM

Hey, I wasn't amking fun of anyone BS!

gemini10 wrote a review on June 26, 2009 12:49 PM

KARA - wow thanks again for choosing one of my picks!
I really enjoy Naidres in Park Slope. They have GREAT bfast sandwiches and really yummy salads. I enjoy their baked goods and coffee
all around a good place to grab anything!

PitbullNYC wrote a review on June 26, 2009 12:50 PM

i drink my coffee black actually :)

unless it's hot coffee, then i put in a dab of skim milk. but iced coffee definitely black and sugar free.

and BS i dont think anyone thought it was cool to make fun of anyones physical attitibutes, but if youre going to post a picture with ridiculous characters in it, expect comments. today's there is nothing wrong with those two. in the ROTD yesterday however, that's a different story. talk about a three ring freakshow.

*rob*

Joe from Brooklyn wrote a review on June 26, 2009 12:59 PM

3 ring freakshow! I think we're all just too used to seeing ads with models we can't come to grips w/ the fact that sponaneous photo's w/ random people are exactly that, regular, random people, not models. 1 quarter of NYers are obese and over half are significantly overweight. I think it's a problem of perception vs. reality.

PitbullNYC wrote a review on June 26, 2009 1:04 PM

LOL joe. no. the women in the pic above are TOTALLY normal. go look at yesterday's pic and get back to us.

*rob*

Joe from Brooklyn wrote a review on June 26, 2009 1:05 PM

Oh , I meant to address yesterday's ROTD. Those people weren't so strange, I would say it was more the fact that it was an awkward picture with people squinting and talking on the phone. The guy(? okay that was a lil freakish) with the sandals might live upstairs. I don't know, I try to be good...

WonTon wrote a review on June 26, 2009 1:06 PM

We weren't making fun of the people, but making fun of the picture and the situation--or the ones we imagine. It's great, it's meta. These random slices of Brooklyn brownstoner life captured in the ROTD photos are like the cartoon contests in the New Yorker--they beg for captions.

Yesterday's ROTD was one of the funniest threads I've ever read on this site. A picture really is worth 10,000 words.

Joe from Brooklyn wrote a review on June 26, 2009 1:19 PM

I agree with Won Ton. Our pre-judgements bring joy to the world.

goldie wrote a review on June 26, 2009 1:23 PM

strange mr.b. there have been lots of negative comments about jews, objectification/stereotypes of hispanics/asians, and gays, and obviously the posting of people's buildings w/o their permission so that it can get publicly bashed, but youve only stepped in for the What (squeaky wheel, i get it) and this?

dirty_hipster wrote a review on June 26, 2009 1:30 PM

Coffee from Clover machines is amazing.

Although - I'm not sure if this is correct but I'll relay what I read.

Starbucks felt they were getting a little too much competition from the indie coffee shops who had these Clover machines, so they were in the works to buy the company that produces them. I'm not sure if it ever went through, but there were talks that they would discontinue making them, and stop servicing the machines in order to squelch the competition.

Damn, sounds like General Motors and the trolley.

East New York wrote a review on June 26, 2009 1:34 PM

"the posting of people's buildings w/o their permission so that it can get publicly bashed"

He's got a point here, Mr. B. - it's the chief reason I've never approved of your "Horror Show" posts. Also, I myself didn't make fun of the people in the photo - said there were "no hot girls" in front of the restaurant.

LOL Dittoburg
The only reason I got that is because of MY spare tire!

well I like the park Slope Naidre's

Joe from Brooklyn wrote a review on June 26, 2009 1:51 PM

really bs? but it *was* cool to make fun of the physical attributes (and gender/sexuality) of the people in yesterday's ROTD?

i second what goldie said.

as for Naidre's, i've only tried the one in park slope. it's decent for sandwiches, soup and sweets, but nothing to write home about in my opinion.

I eat here about once a week. Good salads, sandwiches and vegan muffins. I'm glad it exists.

The one in cobble hill sucks. You would not believe the poor attitude of the people working there. Do yourself a favor and get a coffee and bagel down the street from the nice ladies at Mazzola instead.
