Mulino Ristorante

"Dangling vines cascade down the narrow dining room's exposed brick walls, but the mood is jarred a bit by the view through the front French doors of a supermarket parking lot. Still, the staff works hard, and some dishes, like an arugula salad strewn with an abundance of Gorgonzola dolce, are exactly as advertised," writes Jack Robertiello for New York magazine.
Time Out New York says, "Trattoria Mulino serves tried-and-true appetizers like baked clams, fried zucchini, and breaded stuffed mushrooms. Juicy osso buco alla milanese falls off the bone with a little push." And Yelper Megan L. adds, "They have a dinner special of appetizer, main, dessert of the day, and house wine for $20 from Monday through Thursday. [Note: the restaurant's website says this costs $22.]The food is not mind-blowing, but I was quite pleasantly surprised by my grilled salmon and the accompanying al dente vegetables." How would you rate Mulino?

I haven't tried it, and remember when it was a pizza joint, but I do know Jack, and if he likes it, there has to be something good going on here.

East New York, It was never a pizza joint. It was a Blimpie.
It's decent, good service. The food is consistently fresh and well prepared.
The interior ambiance is quite nice, nut when there is a show at South Paw, the line is right in front in front.

I'll take your word for it, soundfreak. I knew it was something else, anyway. It's been a while since I lived nearby, although I still visit from time to time. BTW, Jack told me today that his review is several years old.

Standard "Italian" food at a really price, and the service is really good. I put Italian in quotes, because much of the menu -as noted in other reviews- seems to be more Italian-American food or food that we think it Italian.
Still, it's good. I've been twice, and would easily go back (probably will this summer) when in the food for that type of meal and an inexpensive pretty tasty bottle of red.
Though I do think Aunt Suzie's is better.

This place used to be excellent about four or five years back. Ownerships and staff changes really took a hit and now, on a weekend night, there's barely a couple of families in there, while a glorified pizzeria like Mangia sits there full.
It was fantastic a few years ago, but barely average now. Just another mediocre Italian in a neighborhood where, if your name isn't Al Di La, you just shouldn't bother unelss you can bring it.

East New York, There is another Italian restaurant a few doors down right on the corner that used to be a pizza joint. pretty easy to confuse the two.
Apologies to Brownstoner for OT semantic post.

how could a blimpies ever last when City Subs is down the street.

I eat here once a week. The Seafood Fra Diavolo is fantastic, it's usually a special. The white clam sauce is probably the best I ever tasted, and the chicken marsala, rolatini and francese are all excellent. The only real downside is the god awful music they play.
Gypsy Kings, Mario Lanza? Please! The service is excellent too.

Possibly the worst restaurant in Park Slope.
