Lokal

"There's nothing too Turkish about this eclectic bistro in Greenpoint, run by the Turkish owner of Williamsburg's My Moon. Only the red snapper is reminiscent of fare in the former Ottoman Empire; the rest is more simple Mediterranean bistro cuisine like mussels, paninis and burgers," says Metromix. Grub Street adds, "The space is designed by the same artist who gave My Moon it’s airy, performance-space feel, but this much smaller location has a more intimate look. Several tall glass-top bar tables are inlaid with stones and sea shells, and there’s a glassed-in kitchen."
After visiting Lokal, Time Out New York griped, "We traveled to all-too-familiar territory—the land of unremarkable food—despite a charming waiter and a wallet-friendly Mediterranean menu... a grilled Margherita pizza, straddled the line between crisp and soggy."
But blogger I Heart Brunch shares a more positive review: "The $11.50 prix fixe brunch menu includes coffee, juice and generous portion size... Drinking our way through several rounds of fantastic Bloody Mary’s, well priced at $4 a piece, each of us remarked upon how absolutely relaxed the restaurant made us feel." And Eater recently reported that "Lokal has added a takeout window after seeing the smashing success of the one next door at Five Leaves." How would you rate Lokal?

ate here twice. not much to write home about. I found it very mediocre. The service was alright and nothing was horrible, but overall found it blah.

Order here once in a while, mostly due to the fact they are on www.delivery.com, and lets face it - sometimes I'm in no shape to communicate with anyone.
Nothing to write home about - If they served My Moon quality at these prices, then maybe we'd be talking about something.

One of my favorite spots to dine outdoors and people-watch on a nice day. Sitting outdoors makes the music at a reasonable enough volume to add relaxed ambience but still allow for conversation. McCarren Park is across the street, and I love to sit here, share the $14 cheese plate (perfectly portioned for 2 people) and sip on some cocktails while hipster-gazing (mostly I like to watch all the cute neighborhood dogs). The wait staff are always very friendly and the service is reliable. The food won't leave you speechless, but it is satisfying and tastes good and the prices are reasonable. Drink prices are a little high, but overall not bad.

it'll probably last due to excellent vibe and location. have avoided it because of previous mediocre food reviews. surely good for an afternoon of drinking and gazing though.
