Latin American, Brunch Spot

"Bogota Latin Bistro features a greatest hits approach to regional Central and South American cooking... Colorful and dreamy hand-painted murals adorn the bar and outdoor patio. Steaks, chicken, and seafood are grilled, fried, and stewed; cilantro, cumin, garlic, lime, and chili peppers are used extensively," writes Michael Anstendig for New York magazine.

Time Out New York says, "Yes, it’s a greatest-hits package, but it works: The arroz con pollo is a delicious haystack of shredded chicken with carrots, red peppers, scallions, lots of cooling cilantro and sliced avocado. There are exotic dishes, too, like smoky pork empanadas with aji (a hot, vinegar-spiked Colombian salsa)."

Eat It recommends starting with the "Pom Palm Salad with Hearts of Palm, Pomegranate, Mango, Pepper, Watercress and Cilantro. This was a really good salad, all tart and tangy in a great dressing. All the ingredients were fresh and flavorful and were in good proportions." And BlackBook says, "Finish off with the churros (Hispanic donoughts), 'cuz you can bet the ones you get in the subway will never come with chocolate sauce and dulce de leche." How would you rate this place?

Yummy. And, they make a mean watermelon mojito.

Love this place! Never had anything but a terrific meal here.

Yes, as Snappy says, the watermelon mojito is excellent. And like 11217, I've had a good meal every time I've been here.

Had a bad experience here with servicea couple of years ago that caused me to leave without ordering.

Based on the other reviews it doesn't seem par for the course, so I won't really elaborate.

The food SMELLED really good, unfortunately I didn't get to sample.

Always a great choice if you're looking for a really good meal in a fun environment. I enjoy the live music on Fridays too... wish I could enjoy it more often!

I ate there once and found the food lacked sabor. If you want real Latin food, grab the bus down to Sunset Park. For really good Colombian food, better head to Jackson Heights.

this place is great - always seems very busy. Tasty without being spectacular. Great if you are playing beers of the world - Argentina and Venezula are not easily ticked off !

Funny, I also had a horrendous experience with service a few years ago and will never go back as a matter of principle (despite agreeing with folks above about the mojitos).

The whole encounter culminated with the manager on duty claiming that we were trying to scam a free meal when we suggested that they should offer us more than a free cup of coffee for making us wait a full hour to get eggs (yes, eggs) we ordered at brunch. There are too many other good places in the neighborhood to bother going back.

I love Bogota and have been going here for years (actually I was just there for brunch last Sunday). I have pretty much always had first rate service and the food has always been delicious.

I love this place. The food is great, if not the most "authentic", the mojitos are super. And as per my wife (I totally agree, but wasn't going to say it first) there are always really hot women there

Say the name of this restaurant with an accent on the GO... boGOta. It's more fun.

denton wrote a review on June 16, 2009 4:36 PM

We go from time to time. Nice mixed crowd, also what Troy says. No, it's not authentic Colombian, probably a good thing. Good service has been our experience. Last time we went with wife's bro, who is in fact Colombian, and he was breaking balls trying to find a waitperson who actually spoke Spanish. They seem to hire waitstaff who look Hispanic but can't speak a word of Spanish. Just sayin...

lechacal wrote a review on June 16, 2009 7:09 PM

denton, shame on you for saying authentic Colombian is not a good thing! I go to Bogota (the city) with some regularity and love the local food. Love this restaurant too. And I disagree with you all about the authenticity.

I used to go there more when I lived nearby, but always had good meals there. Really great drinks and very tasty food. And fairly unique to the neighborhood, where there are plenty of Mexican places, but not much else from South America until you get up to Coco Rocco, which this far exceeds (except for Coco Rocco's Peruvian Chicken!). Service isn't that speedy, but otherwise, no complaints.
