Amorina.jpg
Amorina in Prospect Heights was recommended to us by Fjorder, and AlwaysEating claims that it serves "the best pizza in the nabe, and is easily the holder of the best slices. It's hard to resist their slice special, two square slices and a Boylan's soda for $5, one of the better deals I've found in Park Slope or Prospect Heights."

"Ruth Kaplan, the pizzaiola, produces almost perfectly charred and crispy crusts, and creates their toppings with an eye to detail... A Gorgonzola pie with pears and figs was creamy and only slightly sweet, despite a drizzle of dark honey, while a Siciliana pie successfully married the acidic tang of orange slices to lightly caramelized onions and fennel," writes Andrea Thompson for the New Yorker.

New York magazine adds, "Homey pastas like spaghetti and meatballs perfectly suit the cozy room, which has been outfitted with red-checked-cloth-covered tables, salvaged menu boards, and [owner Albano] Ballerini’s grandmother’s yellowing invoices and receipts." How would you rate this place?

Totally agree! Not only does their pizza rock but the rest of the menu is amazing, too...and the staff is great - always very friendly and jovial. You can tell they like working there. We eat at least there once a week. And I love that they deliver on roller skates!

Joe from Brooklyn wrote a review on June 25, 2009 12:25 PM

Or a cell-phone or internet phone commercial. Whoo hoo whoo hoo hoo whoo hoo whoo hoo hoo...

Oh - and for those interested in food on Vandy the rumor that Barrette will be a Mexican joint is true. It will be a second branch of Fort Greene's Pequena.

Duh...this is obviously the meeting place for the "Men Who Wear Sandals Without Shame" annual brunch. They're just calling the rest of their foot soldiers. (Sorry for the dopey pun, I just had to.)

WonTon wrote a review on June 25, 2009 12:33 PM

This place is good and a good deal. I took my mother there.

kaylas wrote a review on June 25, 2009 12:53 PM

Excellent pizza, very friendly staff who obviously likes working there, homey atmosphere. I totally love the pizza with pancetta and figs, and the pizza with potatoes and rosemary. Great place to take kids too.

tiptoe wrote a review on June 25, 2009 12:54 PM

I can't make heads or tails of the one on the left. That being said, this place is great. Delicious salads and pizza combos, and the spaghetti & meatballs ain't nothing to sneeze at. Good nabe vibe, though I live somewhat out of the nabe.

bkre wrote a review on June 25, 2009 12:55 PM

My favorite pizza place in the neighborhood. And the people are always in a good mood and nice. No complaints at all.

young archi wrote a review on June 25, 2009 1:11 PM

This place is definitely pretty good. Pizza is good, not great, with some interesting toppings. The pasta is mediocre. Still, its definately a good place with a decent deal.

winthropst wrote a review on June 25, 2009 1:14 PM

maybe they are both on a blind internet date with each other and one is calling the other to say "i'm here in front of the restaurant wearing an orange scarf"...

dirty_hipster wrote a review on June 25, 2009 1:18 PM

just noticed the flip flops

flip flops + jeans = epic failure

I'd like to personally apologize to the owners of Amorino for the unfortunate menagerie of characters who happened to be standing outside of their restaurant on this particular day. To make up for what has not been the most respectful ROTD, I do promise to come visit your restaurant in near future.

On an unrelated note, I have SUCH an online crush on DH it's not even funny.

daveinbedstuy wrote a review on June 25, 2009 2:25 PM

Well...the way I see it....that dude lookin' in the window looks like he's doing some sort of ballet move up on his tippy toes. I think the wife (they are both in from Paramus) is so sick of her husband's gay "tendencies" that she's decided to switch on over to the dark side and the large hipped Scotish man is giving her the ALL CLEAR down her slacks to head on over to babeland after a little nosh to pick out a new toy.

I love this place!!! The Deliciosa endive/goat cheese/beet salad is my favorite, I am getting hungry just thinking about it. The pizza's are perfect: perfectly cooked, and with just the right amount of interesting toppings. It's not inexpensive, but somewhere in the middle. I never feel ripped off, but I can't afford to eat here more than once or twice a week.

slopefarm wrote a review on June 25, 2009 4:28 PM

I love it when all the brownstoners kids show their true sexist, sophomoric colors... and the gay boys feel they have to join in through fear of being left out of the joke.

Meanwhile AMORINA is a great neighborhood joint where the staff will embrace all: androgynes, dykes, fags, straights, over 50s, over 70s, black, white.

Too bad the posters here aren't so cool.

young archi wrote a review on June 26, 2009 11:25 AM

two cents:

This web site rates Amorino's food as being better than A Di La.

No F$%king way.

A Di La is much, much better. they're not even playing the same sport.

geekspice wrote a review on June 30, 2009 12:24 PM

tanner wrote a review on July 2, 2009 11:50 AM

what? 4+ for food??? now I know not to trust the ratings here...

not bad, but certainly nothing special... 2.75, tops, for food.

and again, why is there no value option between "about right" and "very overpriced"? How about "a bit overpriced"?

and not cheap, either. pay a little more and get WAY, WAY better everything at Franny's...

YES wrote a review on July 12, 2009 11:08 AM

Dear homophobic and unabashedly ignorant posters,

I am one of the queers in the photograph.

When did it become OK for people to cower under a cloak of digital anonymity to hurl degrading insults at folks? Does my androgyny throw your own masculinity into such peril that you must ridicule my gender expression? It is a sad sad thing when a site such as *Brownstoner* becomes a place for such cowardly and hateful banter.

I live here. This is my neighborhood. It is a place for queer people to live and feel a sense of community.

Stop by and see me next time you come by Amorinas, I live upstairs.
