Reds Tapas Bar

Reds Tapas Bar (formerly known as Reds Produce), was recommended by turcod. Hugh Merwin for Gothamist reports: "The menu is simple: Tortilla Española ($4), Boquerones ($4), assorted olives ($3), bocadillos, and a dozen meat and cheese choices... The most expensive menu items at Reds are its salads, at $8 for a large size. 'We’re here to provide true tapas, the working man’s tapas,' says [owner Rishi] Puntes."
"This tiny storefront on the cusp of Carroll Gardens offers genuine Spanish tapas... more akin to what you’d find in Madrid as opposed to many of the overwrought (and overpriced) creations called tapas in NYC. The skinny, red-accented room contains nine bar stools and five square tables along the opposite wall," writes Krista Garcia for New York magazine.
"We sampled many of the cheeses, meats and other tapas and were delighted with every one of them... I wasn't sure about the huge LCD monitor which looped animal videos on the back wall, but after being there, it added to the charm of the establishment," writes Chowhound Rogue71833. Yelper Kelly O. adds, "The staff was fantastic and even though we didn't know them, they acted like they were waiting for us to stop in and genuinely appreciated the business. Another plus - three of us ate for only $30!" How would you rate this place?

I really love this little place, which looks much better than the picture would lead you to believe. They have some nice plants and a table outside now. The staff are really friendly, the atmosphere always nice. I find it extremely hard to believe that 3 people ate for $30; it's not cheap, especially if you are attempting to eat a meal rather than just a few snacks. For 2 I have never got out of there for under $50 (drinks included, but that's only 2-4 beers). But the beers are REAL pints!

We love this place - it is really affordable and it so close to us - had husbands birthday there and bascially took over the place on satudday night - the staff, owner and hostess (the ownerswife) were wonderful. Love the food.

My wife and I love this place too. The food is good, not great, but it really is the vibe of the place that we like. Sometimes there's a DJ in there that sort of plays stuff from all over the map. I've never seen this place busy, and it's location makes it feel like you're one of about 6 people who know about it (adding to the charm). I've found it pretty inexpensive, and i don't think I've ever left without getting a free beer (Moritz!) or an extra sample of something on the menu - super friendly owner/staff.

I rate Reds as 100% skinhead friendly since owner Rishi Puntes is the former drummer for NY Hardcore band Youth Defense League. I went to Brooklyn Friends School with him. Skinheads 88!

This is a lovely neighborhood spot and really affordable for Tapas, which I generally avoid because I always feel like it costs and arm and a leg and I'm still hungry when I'm done. But not here. The food is wonderful and the vibe is fantastic.
