Pit Stop recently reopened after hibernating for the winter, The Word on Columbia Street reports. Time Out New York says, "Owner Laurent Brunacci has constructed a personal homage to Formula 1. His small bistro teems with car-racing memorabilia; the menu takes the theme a step further with 'practice session' salads, 'training session' appetizers and 'qualification' main courses."

"Inside Pit Stop’s boxy interior, pressed tin walls sport pictures of famous drivers, but in pleasant weather you barely see the tightly spaced tables before you’re hustled into the balmy, relaxed backyard, where, likely as not, there’s a pétanque game under way. The food is equally unassuming—and rewarding. Mixing bistro classics like blue cheese-covered steak and shoestring-thin pommes frites with Court Street crowd-pleasers like vegetarian linguini... the restaurant blends old and new with aplomb," writes Jessica Branch for New York magazine.

Chowhound oolah adds, "Pit Stop has a kids' menu and big backyard filled with kids' toys. We were there on Friday and everyone eating had at least one child. Food is just ok, but it's very relaxing and you don't have to worry at ALL about your kid making a racket -- seems to be encouraged in fact!" How would you rate this place?

I always enjoy sitting out back for brunch. As mentioned, it is a great place to takes kids since they can run around but you can still keep an eye on them. I like watching the petanque players. I usually get something simple like a burger. But I've had some satisfying French dishes like fish soup and steak frites. Note: Even though Laurent has reopened for the season, if you look in the window of the real estate place on Union near Columbia, you can see that the restaurant is for sale. (It is not named but the pictures sure look like Pit Stop!)

I've walked by a bunch and am intrigued but the chowhound reviewer says that every single table has kids. So is it more a family with kids kind of place then? Thought it looked like a mellow kind of eatery along the lines of Frankie's?

Good place, simple and unpretentious. Lots and lots of kids, but the backyard is big enough that they rampage freely without bothering anybody.

One of my neighborhood favorites, especially when sitting outside under a balmy summer sky. Though kid friendly, I would definitely not call it a family only restaurant. Instead to me it feels very French countryside, especially when all the French people regulars are there swilling Pastis and playing petanque on the weekends. I think the food is delicious for the price, which is more than reasonable, and service is always friendly. My only qualifier is that I would rather it not get too popular, as would hate to have long wait for table at what I consider "my place."

Oo, I have wanted to try this place - thanks for featuring!! I love F1 and used to watch races at an Italian coffee place in the North End of Boston. I wonder if Pit Stop shows them (or anywhere else in Bk)? Most are super early, but enjoyable with a good coffee and a group of fanatics. I'll definitely try Pit Stop and ask about it..

This is the best place in the "bococa" area (sorry, I know it's a horrible acronym) for children. So fun to go there with friends - children love it and it's just a great place to spend the afternoon.

I went there on Sunday night, it was very queit. The service was great, the steaks were cooked correctly and I love Formula 1 so that was cool. If it was in a more centrally located hood it would be very popular.
