"Kombit refers to the Haitian tradition of communal farming and feasting, and so the dining room is decorated with agrarian scenes. The restaurant, intended as a sophisticated alternative to casual Haitian joints, has the look of upscale dining but the soul of a family hangout," writes Dana Bowen for the New York Times.

Eating in Translation writes, "Spicy pumpkin soup with mixed vegetables started the evening with a colorful kick. Rara, an even more colorful cold salad of beets, corn, bell peppers and onion, was almost sweet by contrast. We also enjoyed akra, herb-flecked light fritters made from grated yautia, a taro-like tuber, and accompanied by piklis, an intensely spicy cabbage-carrot slaw."

"Some menu items are often unavailable—others perpetually AWOL—and the friendly service sure can dawdle. But when it gets around to it, this Haitian restaurant serves a righteous lambi (conch stew). Ours contained a boatload of the feisty mollusks vigorously beaten into tender submission and simmered in an herby, tomato-based broth," says New York Magazine. What's your take on this place?

Decent joint. How many Haitian restaurants in Brooklyn can you count?

The food is good, yes, but the absurdly poor service makes this an impossible place to recommend to anyone. We've been on several occasions, most recently a year ago when we decided that it is a ridiculous experience. we waited literally almost an hour for our food one time, and the place wasn't even busy. and the food isn't so good as to justify this kind of thing.
