Ghenet Brooklyn

"After years of bringing Ethiopian flavors to Nolita, Ghenet has opened a Park Slope outpost that does justice to the original. The smaller space is well used, with metal partitions lining the walls, adorned with lacey cut-out motifs," says Time Out New York. "The honey-lit Park Slope outpost, with low, dark-wood tables flanked by caramel-hued banquettes, invites groups to graze in Ethiopian fashion from large circular platters... Tangy, spongy injera bread, made from the African grain teff, replaces utensils and arrives like a row of tan, folded napkins," writes AnneLise Sorensen for New York magazine.
"The Ghenet combination for four [$59.95] is a ridiculously good deal, allowing you to sample almost everything on the menu... The doro watt is wonderful –– bone-in chicken cooked in a thick, darkly spiced sauce with a boiled egg alongside. And the vegetarian dishes are equally good. We particularly like the earthy, lemony collard greens, the stewed red lentils and the cabbage and potatoes," notes the Village Voice. How would you rate this place?

I've only been once, but the service was extremely friendly and the food was delicious. I like the interior of the restaurant, too, and didn't feel like I was overpaying for anything (if anything, the portion sizes are pretty substantial for the price). It's a bit of a hike from where I live, and I'm a wuss, so I haven't gone back during the cold winter months ... but I don't doubt I'll be making a return trip soon!

I love the food! Went for dinner, and found the service somewhat daffy and very, very quick. Although it was pretty empty, they wanted us in and out in a hurry, which kind of ruined the experience.

I love Ghenet and am so happy to finally have a good Ethiopian restaurant in the neighborhood! Very good, very reasonably priced, and it is true that we always finish our meal on the early side, but that seems to happen at every Ethiopian restaurant I've ever been to.

I love this place. The food is just as delicious as their Mulberry Street location but the decor is much nicer.
Even though it has great ambiance, I wouldn't recommend it as a date place -- I always end up feeling too stuffed for any romance afterwards.

Ghenet is such a nice place with delicious food. Definitely go with a big group and get a combo plate to share. The stews are the best, as are any of the veggie dishes. And the injera! Spongy, tangy and wonderful. Check out my blog for photos - went here back in the fall and had a great time!

We went there for dinner the other night and it was a thoroughly pleasant experience. The staff was friendly and accommodating and we were given a complimentary appetizer for being the first ones seated in their somewhat spartan annex. The combination for two was an amazing value for the amount and variety of food. The Ethiopian beer was a terrific accompaniment. We used to eat Ethiopian food frequently and Ghenet is not only a great addition to the neighborhood but provides an alternative to trudging into Manhattan on a Friday night after a busy week.

This place is great. Food is tasty and the space well designed. Another beer of the world ticked of - Ethiopian ! I like the fact that this food is different to most of places in the nabe. Sheep station is next door so good night out to have a couple of beers there before and or after.

The food is delicious and very different from everything that's around this area. The drinks are very good. I think I had ginger martini! Very tasty. Definitely will go back there again. I think it looks like it good be good for groups and fun for kids.
