Taco Chulo

"Opened by a Texan and Californian who missed the food they grew up on, the restaurant uses organic, authentic ingredients. The lime-garnished tacos burst with such fresh fillings as slow-braised pork, snappy shrimp with marinated cabbage, and cool, marinated baby cactus." writes Karen Hudes for Citysearch.
Taco Chulo has a few bad reviews on Chowhound for their not-so-spicy fare, but 'Hound NY Jewboy has some advice for the haters: "If any of you hounds doubt this place, just order the tacos with seco sauce and try the marinated peppers . I think they are quite good. Bland? No way." And 'Hound PlomeekSoup says, "I have to disagree with the negative reviews; their guacamole is tight, the Mission burrito with verde salsa is killer and the hibiscus margs are mighty tasty (and strong)."
We're into their Tex-Mex brunch, featuring chilaquiles, a chorizo frittata that's recommended as "hangover medicine," huevos rancheros, and breakfast burritos accompanied by a brunch cocktail menu. New York magazine has another boozy tip: "Don’t leave this Southside restaurant without trying the Michelada, a surprisingly refreshing Mexican drink made of lime juice, chile powder, and Dos Equis." What's your take on this place?

As a Texan, I was happy for their queso.
As someone who lives down the block from it, I am grateful for a good Tex-Mex (ish) option in the Burg.
I have yet to try their brunch though.
(And their verde salsa is too hot me.)

I eat here often. Price-wise it is great. A much cheaper option than Bonita. The food is always well prepared and the service generally efficient. I have found delivery too be hit or miss. Sometimes it takes an hour for the food to come. Overall a great joint to grab a bite.

I think this place is super bland. It's good for two things though... 1)margaritas at the bar and good guac. And 2) when your friends with kids are visiting (big space/kid friendly).

I eat here (or from here) a lot - good, solid fare. Not as cheap or satisfying as a trip to Acapulco (Gpt), but still a good food, good drinks and, yes, ok for kids. (Service rating for the good delivery service.)

Decent mexican food that's really cheap. Margaritas are really good. I like La Superior better as far as Williamsburg mexican food goes.

I live upstairs and like their food. However, there is better (and cheaper) Mexican food. La Superior is, well, superior.
Also, Taco Chulo's bartender is a know-it-all who really knows very little. He basically turned my wife and me off to ever going back. The owners on the other hand are awesome. They are always friendly and make for excellent neighbors.
A little rule for local merchants - if your bartender is going to spout off about another merchant he should be careful to be certain he's not talking to a good friend of said merchant. He spent about 15 minutes railing on Spuyten Duyvil and asking "Who serves beer in a wine glass?" I'll tell you who, people who know beer. Schmuck.

I liked the meal I had here. This place and La Superior are probably equal, but there are tons of places in neighborhoods all over Queens that do it a lot better. As an aside, I'm wondering, are there a lot of people from Texas here in New York? Between this and the other thread about New York v. Houston it seems there are a few. I personally think I've met one or maybe two in my life here. And before you begin thinking I've lived an insular life in the City, I'll tell you my wife is from London and my kids live in London, L.A., and here in New York, so I've been around. Just surprised that the good old boys from Texas seem to be coming out of the woodwork today...

By far, my favorite Williamsburg delivery. i love that you can pick your sauce / sides. has great flavors and is not the typical same 'ol same 'ol mexican. i've never eaten in the restaurant, so i'm only voting on the food and prices.
