"The minimalist brick-and-steel decor of the massively popular, original Soho location has carried over to its offshoots in Manhattan and Brooklyn," writes Justin Hartung for Citysearch. Rice has two Brooklyn locations — one in Fort Greene (pictured above) and another in Dumbo.

"Rice offers an array of savory toppings (grilled shrimp satay bathed in almond-peanut sauce, ratatouille, vegetarian meatballs). Mix and match them with your choice of ten different rices, including Bhutanese red rice, Thai black rice steamed in coconut milk and straightforward brown and basmati," says Time Out New York. And Jenifer Van Vleck for New York magazine notes, "Other entrees are available, but these tend to be less consistent than the house specialty. For style points, there's a small but plucky wine list."

Yelper Joi B. says, "Their vegetarian meatballs are the bomb and the black rice is just perfectly cooked and tasty. I think the tiny side order of edamame hummus is merely passable, though, and far too expensive at 4 bucks." And fellow Yelper Scott W. comments on the $15 prix fixe brunch, "which came with choice of the regular brunch menu, one side, coffee and one mimosa (bottomless glass for $20). The portions were huge and good, while not earth shattering a pretty solid breakfast for the price...check out the steamed greens, eggs Benedict, and cheese grits." What's your take on this place?

Can't speak for the Brooklyn location, but we order from their sister location in Nolita @ work frequently. Food is really good. Several different types of rice, good curry, veggie meatballs and soup. Little pricey for what it is, but what isn't now adays?

One of my favorite places; reasonably priced and delicious, and good for a mixed omni/vegetarian group. I just wish they would open one that delivers to PH.

Rice is the ultimate compromise joint. A little bit of every type of food, all are good, but none are great. Same with the service and decor - all good, but nothing noteworthy

Recommended for groups of passive types who don't want to offend their friend's indifference (i.e. what do you want? I don't know, what do you want to eat?) .

Keep walking down DeKalb if you crave a specific type of food. Fortune favors the bold.

I've eaten at the Fort Greene and Murray Hill locations and both times had a mediocre experience. I love the concept of Rice, but I've always found the food lacking. It's like what I end up with at home when I try to experiment with Asian cooking. Something's just a little off. Portions are also quite small.

Love their veggie meatballs. I eat that for lunch about once a week. Their brunch is amazing, too, serving classic brunch dishes with a twist.

I love Rice and I'm glad they opened on DeKalb Ave. Their lunch delivery is fast and a nice choice vs. other local options. I like all of the dishes I have had there, however they rarely change their menu. I'd like a special now and then or something we haven't had seven times. I think the DUMBO Rice does vary it's menu occasionally.

Perhaps the most mediocre restaurant on Dekalb. Almost everything thing is bland. Yes, please microwave some black beans pour them on a plate and charge me four dollars for them.

Lovely healthy food, creative concept, try the indian dish with chutney and yogurt.
Black rice cool. I return again and againt to the dumbo location as my daughter loves this place. The outdoor space there is special and the place has coolest bathrooms. Try the underground Low Bar as well.

Are you kidding me?

Ft. Greene has some of the most imaginative and affordable food in Brooklyn (save for cheap ethnic spots)...and you like Rice?

Rice?!?!?

Boring, Bland...if Brooklyn is a dude he just ate at Rice, and barfed up your useless Pad Thai.

Sooooooooo many better places in Ft Greene!!! Jeebus.

Made my point?

No. It is very good and lightly imaginative. They stick to their guns. Bonus for celiac's and veg's. If it's too bland, that's why there's a carrier of yummy sauces at your table. Veg meatballs are my choice.

Nice Ft. Green Park location (eat outside). Dumbo lacks a little of that ambiance.
