Loulou

"A neighborhood treasure, Loulou serves refined French food in a rustic room weathered just the right amount. Dark wood lines the hearty plaster walls, and earthy tables wait to soak up any sloshing wine," write Andy Battaglia for New York magazine.
"Star appetizers include quail with vanilla and maple glaze and butternut squash polenta, and scallops with portobello mushrooms in a vermouth cream sauce," says Citysearch's Ben Williams. And Time Out New York reports: "Most of the entrées revolve around fish: Bouillabaisse is a concoction of spicy curried tilapia, scallops and mussells with saffron aioli; grilled salmon is served over a salad of white beans and mushrooms with a cool mint-cucumber yogurt sauce."
The Clinton Hill Foodie strongly recommends saving room for dessert because Loulou's chocolate cake "almost made me pass out with delight -- a crispy, tender, warm, rich chocolate brownie-like cake served in a mug with a dollop of ice cream and a sliced strawberry. It was like the best thing ever." What are your thoughts on Loulou?

I've only ever been here for brunch. The first time I went I just stumbled upon it and wasn't that impressed. About a year later I went back and thought my meal was fantastic! Everyone I was with also enjoyed their dish. The friendly environment is an additional plus.

Our fav hood spot spot. It's our ace in the hole. Try and get there once a week so that it sticks around, only one disapointment in 3 years.

Been here a few times and love it! Everything is very fresh and delicious. I highly recommend. The staff is friendly, atmosphere is cozy and a nice staple to the neighborhood.

I'm a long-time fan of this place. Classy food in an unpretentious atmosphere, with a wonderful, dedicated staff. The back garden is a lovely place to dine in the summer.

My local favorite. Not amazing, but totally relaxed, reliable and consistently good, I make it for brunch at least once a month.

Consistently excellent food and attentive service. But the best part is that this place is family owned and operated. They make an effort with every table, and really understand how to make everyone feel welcome. Space is a little cramped, but that is because the customer's keep coming back. Whenever we talk about going out, Lulu's is always a top option.

We've been here a few times, and while the service is always warm and friendly, the quality of the food has been somewhat variable. The steak frites? Always excellent. some of the other dishes -- just ok. I'd recommend it for a quiet, intimate dinner, with great low key atmosphere, but not if you're looking to splurge on a memorable meal, maybe look elsewhere.

Loulou ranks as one of my two or three favorite restaurants in the neighborhood. It's been consistently good every time I've gone. Definitely try the chocolate cake, and the sea scallop crepes are also worth checking out.

If the food was still as good as it was in 2005, I would be there at least once a week, whether I could afford it or not. Seriously. The service is excellent, I always feel so welcomed and remembered... theyʻve got Front of House down.
Fortunately for my wallet, the food can be a little meh.

I had one decent meal there, but base my review on my iffy feelings on French cuisine, not this specific spot. The ambiance is fantastic and sitting in the garden during the summer is an added plus. The prices were a little high for me but in line with other nabe restaurants of its level.
