"[Chef and owner] Abdul Gueye, a former sous chef at Aureole, puts a Senegalese twist on the usual bistro menu: Roasted salmon comes with sweet-potato gnocchi in a peanut sauce; crab cakes are accompanied by pineapple chunks," Time Out New York writes about this BYOB spot.
"The Senegalese fried chicken, served with pineapple-infused jasmine rice cake, is savory but not as crispy as American palates might expect; the sublimely spicy bread pudding, however, served with warm caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream, may be among the more delectable versions you're ever likely to try," says New York magazine's Sarah Gold. Chowhound Mandu adds, "I always order the same thing -- the burger with the Senegalese salsa -- it comes with a onions, olives, chilies, and red palm oil sauce and is one of my top 5 favorite burgers in the city. They serve it with a mixed green salad and fries with chopped garlic and parsley."
Citysearch's Justin Hartung only has one complaint about ABistro: "the service can be a bit laissez faire." And Clinton Hill Foodie says, "It took quite a while for us to get any attention from the wait staff after we'd gotten our menus, then a good 45 minutes for us to get our food, and in between we asked a couple of times for water and coffee and had to wait 15 to 20 minutes for each." Yum! I love the food and the vibe at abistro. The tucked-away nature of the place makes for a more intimate dining affair. The service adds to this quality - super friendly and welcoming. I can't help but the order the trout every time I go. My boyfriend is in the same trap with the Senegalese Fried Chicken. I find that the sauces they whip up for each dish is usually the ultimate "wow" factor.
Can't complain about the BYOB, either.

One of my favorite restaurants in Brooklyn. Their veggie burger is absolutely amazing, and the sweet potato pie is probably the best dessert I've ever eaten. The staff is always super friendly, too. The only thing I would criticize is the decor -- the white walls make the place feel a little stark -- but I'm there for the food, not the scenery.

This is my absolute favorite restaurant. The food is simply phenomenal. The staff may not always be super efficient but they make up for it in charm and friendliness. I agree with the other poster that the tucked-way nature of the place gives the place a special intimate Brooklyn vibe. We always take our out-of-town guests here. A Bistro is a hidden gem.

I'm so glad to see all these props for ABistro; this is my favorite restaurant in FG, too. It's not light fare, but it's sooo punchy with flavor, spice, and soul. I love the intimacy and I love watching Chef Abdul work (this is why only at this restaurant do I WANT to sit at that back table by the bathroom). Thanks for covering the place. Now, everybody have dinner there. Just not on a night when I need a table.

A freind and I went for brunch yesterday after reading the reviews here and we were very pleased to discover such a great new place! I had the spicy chicken sandwich which is topped with the yummy Senegalese salsa. The portions were very generous too. Maybe the owner read the feedback here because we had top notch service and one of the walls was painted a deep red :) I am already looking forward to going back.

This place makes me happy. It's welcoming, cozy, lively and the food is delicious. If a restaurant embodied the vibe and spiit of Fort Greene this would be it.
