"Willie was a mutt who loved hot dogs. His owners, Ellen Lutter and Tom Anderson, decided to honor his memory by naming their sliver of a hot dog store after him," writes Florence Fabricant for the New York Times. "The menu features Karl Ehmer all-beef natural casing dogs ('Mutts') as well as a grass-fed 'Pedigree' beef dog, Turkey and Chicken dogs and two vegetarian options... The Pedigrees were noticeably more flavorful, with a satisfying snap that spoke of the quality of the casing. Topped with a bright vein of yellow mustard (Willie’s features countless varieties), it neared hot dog perfection," Jordana Rothman of Gothamist adds.

"Willie’s might be the only East Coast purveyor of Let’s Be Frank, the San Francisco haute dog made from all-natural, grass-fed beef pastured on the Hearst Ranch. It’s brownish and spicy, with a dense, grainy texture more reminiscent of a finely ground meatball than a hot dog," says New York magazine. And Time Out New York notes that "Homemade Twinkies, Moon Pies and other retro desserts are also available." Any thoughts on Willie's Dawgs?

I love this place. Delicious dogs, good variety including nitrate-free for my pregnant wife, easy vibe and very friendly owners. Also, nice patio in the spring/summer. It's places like this that I'm hoping are able to weather the economic slowdown-vote with your wallets!

great dogs, awesome array of free toppings, and super-friendly owner.

hope people stop here in between their 5th ave bar-hopping instead of the sketch bodega delis with poor service.

Yes, LOVE Willy Dawgs. I too hope they weather the downturn well, and hopefully they will given the very reasonable prices. The owners could not be lovelier, and the dogs are genuinely delicious (and relatively healthy for this kind of food) as are all the side dishes. I love going there with my kids since they are in heaven and I am too. Epitome of cheap and cheerful. It's especially nice in the summer when you can sit in their garden, but all year-round, it's a great neighborhood eatery.

P.S. One of the best parts about Willie Dawgs is their extensive (and free!) selection of yummy mustards (mmm, chipotle mustard...)

Love the dogs and they are really friendly BUT the prices are WAY high and there is too much bun. A good dog can stand without toppings (and these are good dogs) but if you get one of these dogs plain it is overwhelmed by the bun. Willie needs a smaller bun for his plain dog.

MM - $3.23 for a dog is far from reasonable

Super friendly! Great backyard. Good selections, very original. The carrot is delicious with melted cheddar and jalepenos. Fun mustard selections. The hot dog's could definitely use a more traditional bun option (could be organic). Nice meat selections. Priced to the ingredients/location, not the fact that its a hot dog. Also gluten free buns would be nice for the neighborhood.

Yes, indeed, I meant price is reasonable for the hood. Other than pizza, it's the cheapest dinner I can get. And, given quality of the dog/condiments, I do think it's reasonable for a dog.

Sorry but $3 for a hot dog is a rip no matter where you are and what type of meat is used - and I pay it cause it is a good dog but you cant tell me 3.25 for a dog (the cheapest one they got) is reasonable.

I can tell you whatever I want! The hotdogs are reasonably priced for what you get in terms of toppings, quality, ability to sit down, service, etc, etc.
