"Sunny yellow walls and curtained windows transform the storefront into a cozy household--the kind where the aroma of fresh-baked pies wafts through the kitchen. The garden out back is lined by the namesake fencing and picnic tables," writes Kathleen Squires for Citysearch.

"If you're allergic to cute, stay away from Picket Fence. It oozes from this place like cream from a profiterole. But if you can stand it or, better yet, delight in it, you're in for some good eating," writes Dana Bowen for the New York Times. And New York magazine recommends trying Picket Fence's "buttermilk-fried chicken, with its thin and peppery skin."

"Service is relaxed, yet attentive and friendly; the music includes the Beatles and the Police. Adults can savor a sublime dish of scallops and polenta cakes, accented with a marinated caper sauce, while the little ones enjoy the well-stocked kids’ menu," says Time Out New York. However, Chowhound cool jerk complains, "It was a great place to bring your kids - until they replaced all the chairs with uncomfortable benches along the sides and now it's impossible to navigate through that space with a stroller." What are your thoughts on Picket Fence?

I think you would be hard pressed to find a ditmas parkian excited about Picket Fence since the new owners took over. Not with the farm, cinco de mayo, and pomme de terre in the nabe. I did enjoy their unlimited mimosa brunch however...Its really inconsistent food quality that is the big turn off.

I have only eaten here 3 times - but it was very enjoyable. Its a nice quiet lunch spot during the week. The decor is fun and the service was great. I like farm on adderly - but this menu is a bit more basic and I prefer it!

I think the food is better and more consistent since the new owners took over and the service is more attentive, as well. The food is good- although a little heavy when I'm watching calories. Good for the kids-big outdoor space, popcorn on the tables. We went one night when the weather had just gotten cool and there were outdoor heaters- it was great to eat outside past the season.

Picket Fence is still good, but not as good as it was back in the day (well, ok, four years ago). The pork chop used to be outstanding - now it's average. The burger is still great, though...

Picket Fence was the first "new" restaurant on Cortelyou - the pioneer. It was fantastic when Graham Meyerson ran it, though service was sometimes slow. Now it ranges from very good to OK. It is inconsistent. We still go there on occasion, but not as often as we used to. Now that it has more competition, it appears to be less crowded than the others. And with Cendrillon and a new middle eastern place coming to Cortelyou Road, it might be harder again for Picket Fence to compete.
