"The vibe at Pedro's was relaxed and soothing, like a miniature concrete stretch of Acapulco, or some other nondescript chunk of very vaguely beachside boozing. Everyone was drinking cheap bottled beer or cheesy margaritas in crappy plastic glasses," says Metromix, describing Pedo's summertime outdoor seating scene.

"Inside, down in the basement, is another story. Usually it's a crowd of locals, long-time regulars - Latino, Asian - hospital workers, hungry office people, steady drinkers. Behind the bar, Mary mixes her punchy variations on margaritas and mojitos; salsa and meringue videos crackle on the TV screen," writes The Pink Pig.

"The food has always been hit-or-miss, but CHEAP... Rice and beans, burritos, steak, nachos, are all nice and filling and just a few bucks. I really enjoy the fried green plantains," says Cheap Ass Food. And Chowhound laxer adds: "It looks like a dive, but it has good stuff. Try the cuban sandwich..good mustard, solid pickles and the press makes it all happen." What do you think about this Dumbo stalwart?

REPRESENT! now THAT is how a restaurant in brooklyn is supposed to look on the outside.

The artists name is Craig Anthony Miller, I had the pleasure of meeting him when we both worked a print show down the block last weeekend at Rebar. He's a really nice guy, has paainted a and hung paintings all over Rebar, and is quite accomplished..The food at this place (and i know everyone's thoughts on east coast mexican) is actually good..

the outside is the best part. over the years, as dumbo became overpriced, i feel so did pedros. the food is indeed fine, not great, but fine. however given the price and the way the inside looks, its definitely NOT worth a trek just for that. stick to sunset park.

In the eighties my studio was around the corner. This place (one of only two between Water St. and the River Cafe) was called "Angels Heavenly Kitchen" and served sandwiches and steam table fare to the surrounding factories. There was always a card game or dominoes on going. There weren't a lot of girls going in there. My loftmate and I ventured in for lunch one day and the counter guys made such a fuss because there were girls in the place. They wouldn't let us stand and wait for our sandiwches like everybody else. They set the table, sat us down, brought us water and then presented us with tunafish on toast, on end, with cellophane toothpicks holding them together. The counter guy said, as he handed us our plates, "Just like the Waldorf"

I've never been in this iteration of the place though.

it's okay. food is not as good as you want it to be given how "authentic" the place feels, but satisfactory for its price. i usually get the pork with rice and beans. probably been 10 times and only had an upset stomach once.

best bulk-price ratio in dumbo
modest food, chicken and pork often good if not too long
on the steam table rice & beans is a good thing
gotta support that building/restaurant/mural

I love meringue videos...it's so exciting when the egg whites stiffen up!
