La Maison Du Couscous is known for its flavorful Moroccan fare and its extremely attentive proprietor. Chowhound HabeasBrulee says, "Yes, the owner/waiter is pushy and talkative, but I really enjoy that... Sometimes he argues with me when I try order, but if I just let him feed me whatever he wants, it ends up tasting good, so that's okay with me."

"We like to start with the kofta cigars and a trio of salads. The kofta cigars are filled with wonderfully spiced lamb, but what really makes them for us is the wrapper dough. We imagine that it must be actual warka, stiffer and thicker than the phyllo many restaurants use, with a satisfyingly firm crunch," writes Danielle Sucher for Gothamist.

And Rob Patronite and Robin Raisfeld of New York magazine recommend the "juicy kafta sandwiches adorned with garlicky peppers, a flaky, aromatic chicken b'steeya, or a fragrant lamb tagine, its meat as soft as the plump raisins and prunes it's cooked with." What's your take on this place?

Okay, let me be the first one to say something about this place since I live in the neighborhood.

Except I've never been there. I will try it though. It sounds good!

i've had take out there and it was absulutely wonderful. I actually had take out because I've heard about the owner being too talkative - didn't feel like talking that day. But the decor it nice so i do plan on going to eat there one night.

Hey BRG - that's two postings about Bay Ridge by Mr. B in 5 days. Bay Ridge finally get some love.

I'm a sucker for Moroccan food, so maybe subtract half a star from my ratings, but it's still a good place.

i think i went here about 7 years ago - the signage was different but if it's fairly close to century 21 then this must be the same place. the food was amazing and i remember my friends and i being the only non-morrocans having lunch there - so that was a good sign of authenticity. i had just returned from a trip to marrakesh and taroudant and was craving real morrocan as opposed to israeli versions of morrocan that we see in nyc. (that's almost as bad as "japanese" restaurants run by chinese people. ugh.) i remember asking them for recommendations as opposed to looking for anything specific i had eaten before. that worked out well. and they are super friendly.

my review above was from that one visit years ago. i looked up the reviews for this place on yelp, etc. and the more current ones are quite negative.

apparently there has been a change in ownership, prices and quality. shame. i will try it again to see for myself.

I went there about a month ago. The appetizers were excellent and the owner talked us into a more expensive bottle of wine but charged us the cheaper price-which was a little odd but the wine was good. The homemade bread was exceptionally tasty and unlike anything I had had before. The entrees were good, but not unlike other Morrocan spots that I have been to in Paris and Manhattan. Next time I will probably order more appetizers, wine and dessert!
