Press 195

"If the dining room looks empty, look again. Chances are the garden out back is hopping, with happy Slopers sipping wines that start less than $20 per bottle and munching on more than a dozen kinds of pressed sandwiches," writes Citysearch's Lisa Marie Rovito. New York magazine notes that the specialties at Press 195 aren't your typical Italian-style panini but "offbeat alternatives, like marinated spicy grilled chicken cutlet with blue cheese and carrots, and roast pork with monterey jack and pickled jalapeños."
And Press 195's knish press, "a sandwich built on a split potato knish," was highlighted Julia Moskin's New York Times piece on great New York sandwiches: "Squeezed in the hot press, the knish’s crust becomes thick and crunchy, and the peppery, onion-tinged mashed potato inside melts into the filling. The pastrami version is thought-provoking, but even better is London broil with gobs of spicy brown mustard and an 'onion jam' that takes you right back to the hot dog cart."
For vegetarians, we can totally get behind Brooklyn Slob's recommendation of sandwich #13, featuring sliced tomato, fresh basil, fresh Mozzarella, and maple syrup basil pesto: "It's the maple syrup pesto that places this sandwich above its tomato-mozz-basil rivals. Really terrific, that famous maple syrup pesto of theirs." What are your thoughts on Press 195?

Great sandwiches and an unbelievable selection, including veggie options. The sangria is good as well. The only drawbacks are cash only and the service is attentive but the food takes a bit.

SnarkSlope, here's a caption contest for you. What do you think the guy with the baseball cap outside is saying on his cell to the woman inside the restaurant, who appears to be on her cell?

Love the food at this place, the sangria rocks, and the back garden is delightful on a nice day. But one tip if you decide to order in: call and place your order, then take a leisurely bath, clean out your closets, watch a movie ... and when you're done with all that, your delivery might finally arrive!

Great sandwiches, horrible service. I never go because I get so angry about how unbelievably slow they are.

SnarkSlope, not bad. Or how about,
Dude: "Is Press 195 the name of this restaurant or what I have to do to get you off of me in the morning?!"

Sorry, not my best, but my writer has the day off.
Point, Biff!

I pretty much agree with the general sentiment: tasty food, pleasant service, but incredibly slow given that you're basically getting a warmed-up deli sandwich. Don't go unless you've got an hour to spend. Also, the interior space is nothing particularly special. Haven't been to the backyard garden, so I can't comment on that.

I only went there once and that was enough for me. The service was completely absurd. I waited an eternity. No exaggeration, it was 30 minutes, for a sandwich and soup to go when it wasn't even busy in there. When I got it home I found they had made me the wrong sandwich. In less time I could have gone right next door to Bierkraft, bought deli sandwich fixings, gone home and made the sandwich myself. And would have had the sandwich I actually wanted. As for the quality of the sandwich, eh, whatever. Not all that great.
