French, Brunch Spot

Menu

Jolie.jpg
"The name means 'pretty' in French, a fitting description for this little bistro’s charming ambience. A pretty half-moon of a bar sits up front; a wide garden with large orange umbrellas occupies the back third of the space; and twinkly gold lighting and lush greenery outfit the dining room in between," says Time Out New York. And Citysearch's Erin Behan offers some tips on what to order: "Heed this advice: the more French the dish, the better the experience. Forego the less-impressive crab cake pyramid in favor of snails in mushroom caps, generously bathed in garlic and parsley, or the savory oxtail terrine, which seduces with complex texture and flavors." But Chowhound oolah writes, "Jolie is just standard French bistro food... It won't blow your mind, but on a gloomy rainy Friday, it seems like a nice comfortable way to spend an evening."

While it's a bit pricier than its more casual French bistro neighbor, Cafe Luluc, Jolie does offer daily deals — like half-price bottles of wine on Tuesdays, $1 Fischer Island oysters on Wednesdays, and prix fixe menus for weekday lunches and on Mondays and Thursdays at dinnertime. (Click the "Let's go to Jolie" link on the restaurant's website for details.) What do you think about this place?

Have eaten here a couple of times and found the atmosphere stuffy, the service slow and the food mediocre and overpriced (probably didn't help that I was sick after the last time I was there).

I eat here alot. I think the service has been above average. The food is very good but some things are better than others. The escargot are great and they have a very good steak tartare which I eat often. Get the appetizer chees course for dessert. The small portion is more than enough for 2 people. The wine list is very reasonably priced.

Dinner is pretty good. I love sitting outside in the garden when it's nice out. We have always had good service here, even when it's busy.

Nothing more or less than an solid, decent neighborhood spot. Brunch is just okay, dinner just okay. Have the feeling that regulars might get better everything, but that's to be expected. Still, it's nice to have an unassuming local spot with decent wines at decent prices when you just don't feel like cooking!
