Caserta Vecchia doesn't get a lot of buzz, but it just might be one of the unsung heroes of Smith Street. Time Out New York says, "Opened in 2002, Caserta Vecchia is authentically Neapolitan: The fior di latte mozzarella, the San Marzano tomatoes, even third-generation pizzaiolo Alfonso Carusone all come directly from Naples." And Citysearch's Paul Adams goes on to say that "pizza is top-notch, with an old-school crust that's thin but not brittle... A standout is the quattro formaggi, made with fresh mozzarella, Gorgonzola, fontina and Parmigian cheese."

A Brooklyn Life's Erin Behan is also a fan of the place: "We sampled the classic margherita and the arrabbiata, topped with mozzarella, tomato sauce, sausage, peppers and pecorino. The rich, creamy fior di latte, or 'flower of the milk,' mozzarella on both pies certainly pushed the meal into simple pleasures territory — a reminder that something done right with quality ingredients doesn't need to turn somersaults on your plate."

Chowhound Nehna simply says, "Caserta Vecchia has never disappointed me." We've had good experiences with their delivery service, but our favorite pie, the Grinta, tastes best in-house — because it's topped with a lightly-cooked egg (along with tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, mushrooms, artichoke hearts, and Gaeta olives). Any more thoughts on this place?

Big fan of this place and always a little surprised when folks aren't aware of it. Its no Lucali, but as far as "personal" pizzas go in the neighborhood, its a favorite. especially the sausage and olive pie.
always friendly, fast delivery, and it puts savoia's pies to shame.

Thanks so much for posting this review, I've always wanted to try this place (especially now that it's near-impossible to get into Lucali). I'll definitely check it out.

that grinta is a great pie. as a matter of fact, every pizza i've had there has been very good. the campagnola is another favorite. and you can walk in and get a table when other nearby worthwhile places are packed.

this place is a little gem and their entire menu is decent, not just the pizza. calamari salad and their homemade pesto gnocchi are recent stand outs. added bonus, one of the few places on smith street that the hipsters dare not enter. garden in the back is very nice during summer.

I'd never ventured that far south on Smith. Never went beyond Los Paisanos meat market. I'm going here this week. I had a fantastic pizza at Peperoncino on 5th Ave near Flatbush two weeks ago. Always a big fan of quattro formaggio!!!!

Caserta Vecchia is awesome. Great food, family environment, also there is a really nice backyard area.

Shhhhh.....don't tell everyone or the tourists will ruin it.
