Cafe Luluc

Cafe%20Luluc.jpg
"My go-to brunch spot is Cafe Luluc. It really can't be beat for price, speed and taste," says Erin Behan from A Brooklyn Life. And Gothamgrrl agrees: "The eggs with hollandaise over smoked salmon (a superior rendition of eggs Benedict) are my favorite, served with exquisite fries and a salad. The pancakes are stupendous as well... The one potential kink is the place is cash only: you must hit the ATM first." Weekend crowds are another issue, and there's often a wait for a brunch table -- though the backyard offers additional seating when the weather's nice.

As for non-brunch fare, Memoirs of a Palate complains about a hamburger that "came back a bit on the totally cooked to death side." But we've heard great things about the Luluc cheesesteak (which is also available at brunch-time), and Chowhound oolah says, "The pulled pork sandwich at Luluc is very tasty, especially if you like a lot of garlic." This Little Piglet, a fan of their fish tacos, recommends Luluc to solitary diners: "A bunch of magazines [available for patrons to page through] offer instant entertainment when dining solo." What are your thoughts on this popular cafe?

My old apartment's bedroom window used to look directly across the street into LuLuc and I have to say that the food never disappoints and the staff are always cordial and polite. It's also one of the last great early Smith Street spots.

Luluc was our favorite place in the neighborhood before we moved. The staff was always SO nice, and the food was a fantastic deal. I think they might make the best pancakes in the world -- they must be made with a pound of butter, but taste so so good. I was a huge fan of the rosemary chicken, and the chickpea salad was to DIE for. We tried to get the recipe out of them but they weren't giving up their secrets.

I would walk right past Cafe Luluc to get steak sandwich at Clover Club!

I always forget how much I enjoy Luluc until I go there again. Great for lunch/brunch -- and there is no reason that would not be true for a casual duinner as well.

Luluc's pancakes are life affirming. Hope that doesn't overstate how much I enjoy them. The service is alway's very good and I have always had good brunches there. My only quibble is that the tables are too tightly packed together and the line for brunch is off-putting.

Every fish dish I've had there (cod, sea bass, salmon) has been delicious and beautifully prepared. The mahi mahi tacos are spectacular. The mahi mahi is smoky, the salsa has a kick, and you get a generous dollop of guacamole. The bowl of basmati rice is weird but yummy. Asiago cheese and avocado round out one of the world's greatest grilled chicken sandwiches. And warm Nutella crepes are the perfect dessert.

I love this place. We eat there at least twice a week, for brunch & dinner. The dishes have a nice twist, and the service is great.

I haven't been in a while, but I've always liked it. Never had a bad meal there.
