Sushi, Japanese

Menu

"The dining room, with its beamed ceilings and dark wooden window slats, is visually soothing, with squared-off Japanese lanterns casting a mild glow. The young waiters, all Japanese, are gracious and knowledgeable," says the New York Times. And the Village Voice offers a long list of reasons to check this place out: "sea urchin right out of the shell, orange clam that just stopped squirming, the fattiest chu-toro I've ever seen, serious sushi chefs, kind, unintrusive waitresses, great sake, and a generous omasake at whatever price you set."

"Staples are mostly well-executed, but it's the more original dishes that set this place apart, like the Dynamite, a delicious broiled sea scallop, mushroom and smelt roe appetizer presented in an open shell with a golden-brown crust." says Citysearch's Ben Williams, who also adds that Brooklyn's Blue Ribbon Sushi "is superior to its Manhattan sibling." How would you rate this place against Brooklyn's other top sushi joints?

P.S. Save your thoughts on Blue Ribbon Brasserie next-door — we'll be running a separate post on it!

We like. Not cheap, but worth it.

I absolutely love this place. Never had a bad meal here.

I agree that it's better than the Blue Ribbon is soho or the one at Columbus Circle.

This and Oshima up on 7th and Berkeley are my two favorite sushi places in Brooklyn.

Far superior to any other sushi restaurant in Brooklyn in taste, presentation and ambience.

For take-out, however, I also like Oshima. And the Japanese tapas place on Fifth Avenue -- the name escapes me at the moment -- is also excellent, but in a more downscale way than Blue Ribbon (and I mean downscale in a good way).

My favorite restuarant of all time. If you get the Blue Ribbon platter you can eat forever!

Top notch quality of pretty much everything on the menu. And who knew a steak at a sushi place could be so good? Not that I would have the huevos to order a steak in a fish restaurant, but I tried someone else's. The green tea crème brûlée (that's right - I spelled it in French, bitches) is pretty awesome as well.

Two words: Geido rules

Yeah, Blue Ribbon is good, but why spend so much? I have more fun at Geido for half the price.

The BEST Sushi in Brooklyn.

They have great daily menu of fresh fish that you do not get on regular basis, like needle fish. I think this is wonderful for the adventurous sushi eater.

A little to expensive for regular take out or delivery, but this is the type of Sushi place you want to eat because it is so nice.

One of my favorite restaurants. I am generally not a pc eater, but I have had real pangs of conscience eating sushi lately. I have started bringing a handy wallet card with me when I do: http://seafood.audubon.org/ I wonder how long restaurants like Blue Ribbon will be able to exist? I think they will be a memory one day in the not too distant future. I would like to think that restaurants like Blue Ribbon can lead the way in being more conscious of what they serve, but I have yet to see a single sushi restaurant boast of such awareness. Sorry to be a spoilsport. Being one is generally not my MO.

Great place. You get what you pay for, always a great meal. If you can't afford to eat out stay home!

The food can be great or just OK depending on the night, but I always have a good time there but also spend $50/pp.
