"I don't know how to tell you this, so I'm just going to tell you," our contractor said when we answered the phone. Bracing to hear that the sprinklers had gone off or that some major structural problem had been unearthed, we were almost relieved when he told us that some crown moldings on the second floor (where our dining room will be) had collapsed. This is a bummer since this is the floor we are trying to pay the most attention to detail on during the renovation, but since it fell into since neat pieces as shown, the GC is optimistic that it can be reattached and salvaged. Anyone had experience with this kind of thing? At worst, this seems like a minor "setback" for your renovation. I'm 6 months into a renovation of my brownstone and have been repeatedly amazed at the fine work the plasterer is doing. He has patched my crown moldings nicely and has re-attached pieces that either had fallen off or had been removed intentionally in order to do work behind the wall. Good thing it didn't ruin any of you fancy non-Ikea furnishings Posted by: Anonymous at March 23, 2005 10:00 AM same thing happened to me...lost a huge ornate plaster ceiling piece. It was a bummer. Posted by: mcteague at March 24, 2005 1:48 AM The GC will definitely cover it. He was very apologetic about it falling in the first place. Very stand-up guy.
