Bringing Order to the Records

shelf

Alright, so we're going to start putting up some more stuff now even though it feels like we have a long way to go before the interiors are "finished". First up: We've gotten most of our records put away though we still have some wiring issues to sort out--plus we have yet to unearth a couple of components from the depths of some unmarked box.

Hurray! Bring it on...

You put your records away? I was expecting to see file cabinets or hanging files if you were storing records. What are those flat colorful things you have on the shelves... :P

So, one vinyl nut to another, what kind of turntable do you guys have? Mine's a Linn Basik. 15 years old but still sounding sweet.

Wow! Vinyls! Space is truly the last luxury -- I don't even have room for my CDs, so I'm downloading them all to my iPod and selling them...

I second Roz's question - what kind of turntable do you have and where'd you get it?

What are you plans for cord management? That's the problem with built-in shelves, which otherwise look so fabulous.

whitbo!
you know exactly where we got it, don't you?

just trolling for some public recognition...

It's a twenty year old B&O that I sold to Brownstoner about ten years ago. Glad to see it's still going strong!

Ah, vinyl. Having to get up every 30 minutes or so to flip sides makes me listen more closely. I usually sit down to concentrate on the music when I'm playing my LPs. It's not just background noise. Then there's the delicious "decay" -- eg. Sarah Vaughan's voice trailing off at the end of a song -- which disappears altogether with digital playback. But getting the acoustics right in a brownstone can be tricky: long, narrow rooms; high ceilings; all those doorways etc. How have people set up their systems?

Ok now.....how do you organize your records?

if you did want to store your records in a different way...these guys make custom cabinets as well as storage for turntables. they're in SF but have really nice stuff (and they ship).
